What the heck...is there NIL in High school's now or am I over reacting that theirs some form of monetization or his father has a coaching position lining up? Either way I am happy for them getting noticed. Just too bad he has to leave the State of Michigan, as a top recruit out of Detroit area.

I'd be picking Georgetown from that list... and Im not a Georgetown guy. Can't pass up the Big East there... especially getting on the court while the team is down with a chance to help turn it around and become a legend.

The ESPN Top 60 for 2023 is updated. Remembering the convo we had about high ranked instate recruits, I hope that U-D is at least keeping in contact with #35 Braelon Green from Ypsilanti (currently at Dream City Christian in Arizona) and #53 Curtis Williams from Detroit Country Day. Kirky, Duke has two of the top 60. UDBaller, Ohio State has one. TTH, North Carolina has one. Michigan State has one as well. www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2023/order/true

Not yet for 2023, but the Crimson have an ESPN four star recruit in the class of 2022, ready to lace them up in the Fall. :-)

We've offered. If there's a local guy in the class of '23 that is ready to/currently blowing up, this is it. I can't urge our staff enough to work hard for this guy (of course, when you've still got 6 open spots in the class of '22, and no publicly announced non conference games scheduled yet, and it's already into June, you've got more important things to do. I wish, just for once, we could be thinking ahead instead of playing catch up)

Nobody asked me, but if I was recruiting for Titan basketball, right now I'd be hitting the JUCO ranks hard. Particularly, I'd be looking hard at Schoolcraft, Mott, Lansing CC, St. Clair County CC, Kellogg, Macomb, Muskegon, etc. We've seen some capable D1 players coming out of that group and I imagine that there are some good (not great) prospects there. See who we can convince to stay instate if we make them a serious offer and get them to lock in their spot in November, rather than holding out and waiting to be discovered by a high major.
And I wouldn't limit it to Michigan JUCOs. I'd look at JUCOs nationally, but particularly in the Midwest, with the hopes of identifying capable players who are willing to commit early.
If I am reading our depth chart correctly, we've got six scholarship players on board for 2023-24. And we aren't really devoting as much time to that class as we should because we are still working on the class of 2022. I'd rather not be in that position next summer. With seven spots open (and it will probably be more) for the class of 2023, I'd like to see us land as many good JUCO players as possible early to ease some of that Spring/Summer recruiting pressure. Even if we got four of those players early, we'd still have some spots available for transfers. And since we don't seem to be landing much in the way of impact transfers anyway, I'd just as soon try to land some hungry JUCOs.
Time for us to find this eras versions of Minnerath, Dunking Doug, and "TK" Kennedy.

I agree that it'd be nice to see more JuCos coming in. Easier to predict than guess who is going to be transferring, but probably less of a chance they will qualify academically. If they had to go to a JC, they probably weren't honor roll students.
As I scroll through the various recruiting threads on this board, we have made quite a few JuCO offers, but it's been rare lately to have a taker. It would be interesting to check with the guys who turned us down who, in the past, might've come to Detroit Mercy and find out why we didn't make the cut. Staff? Teammates? Can't get in? Facilities? (That last one is my guess. I expect that is how Kampe snatched Rocket Watts away from us.)
