As we enter the November signing period, does anyone think that the Titans will sign anyone? Or will it be Spring/Summer recruiting again? 🤔 I dont think we will sign anyone. Spring Summer recruiting again...if Mike Davis is asked back for a 6th season.

Interesting...Caleb is team-less this year it appears after his dad was fired from MVSU. We've discussed Caleb before in whatever his original recruiting year was. He scored alot at MVSU but based on taking a TON of the shots. Career 30% 3-pt shooter (shooting 8 a game!), and 33% from the 2-pt land. Career 2 turnovers per game to 2 assists per game. MVSU lost a TON of games going 7-75 in the 3 yrs the Hunters were down there. The Delta Devils look up to Calihan with drooling admiration of a father/son combo whose record is 50-77. Thats kind of astonishing actually...Lindsay would have to win the next 43 straight games just to catch up to MD's sub-mediocre record. Tells you how bad things were going down there.

You forgot to mention that he’s a 58% career FT shooter as a PG.

I think we also talked about Caleb last year in the Idle Speculation About Transfers thread. I wondered what had happened to him after he hit the portal, because I didn't see him on anyone's roster this year. As I have said before, I am glad the staff is considering Hunter. And I know he's shot a low percentage from the floor, from three, and from the line, and he turns the ball over too much. On the plus side, he raised his free throw shooting percentage 10 points from year two to year three, and he's a Detroit kid from one of the few high schools in the area regularly turning out D1 talent. I would be okay with the Titans signing him, if everything checks out okay. It wouldn't shock me if the followed the path of Kuol, Akec, Stone, Matt Johnson, Waterman, Liddell, etc., blossoming under this staff and playing better than he ever had before. I think if everyone from this year's team comes back (big if), we still have four scholarships to give.

It's likely there is some kind of relationship between MD and Hunter, it's odd that the team would tender an offer to Caleb at this time of year. Maybe, just maybe there will be a father and son offer.

I view Caleb as a poor man's JJJ. That said, I dont care if he's offered or not. However, if he ever plays a significant role for us... it would be on a poor team.

I hope this offer doesn’t come to fruition. There are plenty of good kids coming out of Michigan High Schools that we can offer no need to grab the weaker ones just to have a Michigan kid. Local kids have been coming into our building for years and playing well against us. A Benton Harbor kid beat us in the Milwaukee game. I bet we didn’t even give him a look out of HS.

Tangential perhaps to the recent offer to Hunter, I noticed freshman Sonny Johnson made the honor roll for the first semester. He’s a smallish point guard, not sure how many of those you want on the roster in that size/role (in addition to Johnson, LeGreir sort of fits that category). I haven’t seen Johnson on the bench this season, thought maybe he was taking online classes while recovering from surgery, that’s just speculation. Hopefully he is making a good recovery and can contribute next season, but he hasn’t played competitive basketball in a long time.

I'm not necessarily advocating for Caleb Hunter, but I find it amusing that anyone would act as if he's not worthy of a Titan offer. I am aware of the shortcomings in his game, but he's from the same conference as Gerald Lidell, and Gerald has done better in the HL than he did in the SWAC. Is it that unlikely that Hunter could be a productive player here, similar to Lidell and players who have accomplished less in D1 basketball than Hunter has? I think he could do what Moss and Kyle are doing, and they're both on scholarship.
I'm pretty sure I haven't missed any big announcements of recruit signings and commitments, so I don't see anything wrong with an offer to a Detroit kid who has scored 1,000 points in a D1 program, even if he's not one of the top players on the wish list.
Yes, there are other potentially good players from Michigan high schools out there. Unfortunately, none of them seem to be coming here right now, either from high school or the portal. 2023 guard Chuck Bailey, from just a few miles away from campus in Hamtramck, committed to Evansville today. 2023 guard Sonny Wilson, from U of D High, is heading to Toledo. We were after both guys, but they decided to go to schools with better facilities, more fan support, etc. I think it is smart for the staff to consider a wide variety of players, and I expect them to be better able to evaluate players than I am. If they make an offer to someone, I don't dismiss them out of hand.

This kinda bums me. Early on Bailey was getting interest and those informal "offers" from a host of P6 schools, so I didn't give much thought to our getting him. But as those P6 schools pulled back, you'd like to think that family and area ties would make Detroit a more attractive offer than Evansville.

I don't want to assume, so I will ask. Why do you ask? Is there a point you are making?
