Caleb was the 4th option at Class D Southfield Christiam for a while. For Class C/D, that team was loaded with both Bryce and Brock Washington as well as Harlond Beverly. Jason Whitens and tiny North Central barely beat them for the state championship. 😁 Whitens was by far the best player in that game and was interested in UD but we had no interest in him. Sorta like Wonders who we had no interest in and is in the rotation at Southern Illinois in the Valley as a Frosh. This offer to Hunter stinks of a pat my back I’ll pat yours deal. Guy 4 opt. On a D team and non starter on an A team, 30% shooter on one of the worst teams in D1 is offered a Titan scholarship so he can come in and possibly be our 5th or 6th option at guard because he shouldn’t be taking time from Kyle, Stone, Johnson or Tankersley. And yet, Harlond Beverly, not Whitens, has been the best of the bunch in college, with Bryce Washington and Whitens accomplishing about the same, and Caleb Hunter, for all his flaws, scoring over 1000 points in D1, four times as many as Whitens. I wouldn't have complained at all had Bacari Alexander--who was in his first year as head coach at the time (which shows how long Whitens has been out of high school)--made the offer, but I'm just not sure you advance your case a whole lot by citing a guard who has averaged 3.5 ppg in his career with a worse shooting percentage from three than Caleb Hunter, and under 70% from the line. You seem to be telling me that an offer to Hunter (which I've made clear doesn't excite me) is flawed when we should be offering guys like Whitens, and I just don't think that's a very good case.

As for Foster Wonders, again, I wouldn't have complained had we offered him. He's a D1 player. He's averaging a bit under 8 minutes per game for SIU, under 7 minutes since conference play began. I see no reason to believe he'd be accomplishing anything more than Marcus Tankersley is doing were he at UofD. I guess you could say he'd be outperforming Sonny Johnson.

When I suggested Wonders and Whitens to the Coaching staffs I was informed that we were not interested in Class D players. They were a couple of very good Class D players. Whitens is getting on the floor more at State than Hunter ever will here. I just think offering Hunter stinks a little!

I do not have a problem with Tankersley I like his game and I think there were a lot of times this season when he could have and should have had more minutes. I hope to see Tankersley for another 3 years as a Titan. Guy plays hard and is a scraper.

I think it would suck to cut Tankersley's minutes (or potentially lose him to transfer) to give minutes to Caleb. This offer is far from exciting.

I think everything has worked out the best for all mentioned here. Davis has gotten the players he wants to play what he considers is his style of basketball and the kids I tried to funnel that way who I thought would be good for the program are better off that they didn’t go there. It sounds like Whitens will end up with Izzo’s help coaching in college somewhere and Wonders is part of a team that is in first place in the Valley and has a good chance to go to the dance as a Frosh. In fact they might both get an opportunity to participate in the big dance this year. We have a Sophomore coming up who is long athletic and still growing that looks like he might end up being the best player to ever come out of the UP. I will not be contacting our current staff on this kid! Let’s hope Davis turns things around and his ideas on what and who it takes to have a winning top notch program work out for us.

This is a good early commitment and just might help bring more good commits who will know who they are playing with for the next four years. Now we really need a 6’9”-6’10” guy with a big motor. I like this Davis recruit!

I like this Davis recruit! Agreed. A leading contender for Mr. Basketball and the star of one of the favorites to win the state tournament. Had offer from Miami, Ohio.

Tyler Jamison of Port Huron Northern won the 2023 Mr. Basketball award. Jamison signed with Farleigh Dickinson University. FDU's coach Tobin Anderson is leaving for Iona. If Jamison re-opens his recruitment, I hope someone on our staff would reach out.

The Titans are one of several teams that have reached out to St. Francis Brooklyn transfer Zion Bethea. (I guess it's us. The tweet says Detroit.)
Bethea was one of the three Terriers that I mentioned that the Titans might consider in the Idle Speculation thread.

Bethea was one of the three Terriers that I mentioned that the Titans might consider in the Idle Speculation thread. I have no objection with reaching out to Bethea, and I haven't seen any of the three play ever, so they may have flaws/deficiencies about which I know nothing. But just on the surface, the one I'd be most interested in isn't the guard Bethea, but the 6-8, 225 lb. forward Josiah Harris, who averaged 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks.

Is he a duplicate of Ryan Hurst? Ryan is listed as a combo guard, Zion is listed as a wing. Same size, same build.
