As my mind reels from the complete absence of college basketball, I remembered a question I wanted to ask the board. Who do you consider the champion of a conference? Is it the regular season conference champion, or the team that wins the conference tourney and the automatic bid? And does it make a difference if it is a mid major conference or a high major conference?

My opinion is that the championship designation should go to the regular conference first place finisher. I think the gauntlet of the regular season is a better indicator of who is actually the best team, while the winner of the conference tournament might just be the team that got hot at the right time. However, I have talked to people who feel the opposite way.

Less chance of a player getting hot over the course of 2 games leading to a few upsets, or an injury or foul trouble deciding the whole thing. Over time, the cream eventually rises to the top.
