I attended the game at MSG where Coach Thompson unveiled his replica of Couch Carneseccas sweater. I am guessing it was mid 80s as SJU had long winning streak when Louie wore the sweater.

Classy coach. The reactions of his players like Allen Iverson show how important a mentor he was to his players. Aside: I'm old enough to remember him as a player for the Celtics. Yes, Larry, the competing Carnesecca sweater was a great gesture and a very smart way to cement that rivalry in the old Big East. RIP to a good man.

A fine coach, a fine recruiter, a fine teacher. The fact that so many of his players played all four years and graduated is a testament to his mentorship.
A 1978 one-point win over Detroit is included in the Hoyas' top 30 upsets; it contributed highly to keeping us out of the NCAA tournament that season. The Titans came back the following season to trounce G'town by 20 points; we went to the NCAA that season.
