Tony Paul also has a nice story in the Detroit News about that three-game win streak Watson had over Izzo. It recaps the games, but also discusses why MSU and U-M are reluctant to schedule instate mid-majors like Detroit Mercy and Oakland. It’s behind the paywall but worth checking out if you have access. Headline is: “'Get the check and get the win': Detroit finally has another crack at MSU after '90s dominance.”

I was at the game at Cobo and vividly remember that shot. 😁

MSU fans can be a sensitive bunch. I understand why, because they generally get the short end of the media coverage stick from the Detroit media when comparing coverage between MSU and U of M. I heard it characterized once as "Detroit media covers the Spartans and root for the Wolverines", and I think that is accurate. Makes for a thin skinned fan base, I guess. Still, even with that context, some of those posts are overboard.

Still, even with that context, some of those posts are overboard. Watson's quotes were actually quite anodyne, even something of a defense of Izzo. From the story: and Does that sound like Watson is bashing Izzo? And of course, the fans on that thread show their ignorance, talking at length about Brandon Cotton, as if that had something to do with the series or its termination (Cotton came along, of course, long after Izzo pulled the plug on the series.)
