Dave Winfield was probably my favorite (definitely in the top 3) baseball players in the 1980's. Although I knew he played college basketball, I had no idea this incident had occurred. Thanks for educating me

Thanks for educating me And in fairness, people deserve to be judged on more than one day in their lives. Heck, Eli Holman punched out a fellow student, but I rooted for him. Fan emotions, and what triggers them, are a funny thing. I doubt amidst all his memorabilia, Dave Winfield has anything to celebrate this game or incident.

Certainly one day doesn't frame a person's life, BUT the was a culture of a method of coaching that seemed to be part of Musselman's playbook. That crowd was a mob, and he has to take major responsibility for what happened. He pushed that mob into a riot. What Corky Taylor did to Witte was a sucker punch and he should have not been allowed to remain on the team or in school. Helping a player from the other team is a goodwill gesture, Turner used the gesture to assault Witte. These college men, these players didn't think that kids in school yards might do the same thing.

Dave Winfield also killed a seagull in 1983 before an MLB game in Toronto.

Winfield is a tool.
Dave Parker was a better hitter even amidst cocaine nose bleeds.
