A new 32 team post season tournament (formerly the CIT), for teams not selected to the NCAA or NIT. I guess we still might have hope for postseason play!

"Each game of the Basketball Classic will be held on the campus of one of the participating schools. All gate receipts will be collected by the Basketball Classic, enabling a wider range of schools to participate. Schools can host Classic games without the responsibility of an additional financial commitment."

Previously, the CIT, had 26 teams (last played in 2019). The CBI, a five-day neutral site tournament in a destination location, also still exists. I believe it's 148 teams that will now have postseason play - how special..

I know that feelings on the CBI and CIT have been mixed on this board, but I'd rather play in one of those than have the season end after a loss in the conference tournament. I was disappointed that we didn't keep playing last year when the opportunity was there.
I'm all for participating in the Basketball Classic if possible.

Under the new campus and financial format, I feel the same way. I'd just hope we'd keep it in perspective, and not start hanging banners (unless we win the whole thing) and bragging about our prestigious post season invite, after getting an 8 seed and getting blown out in the 1st round

And here again is where the home cancellations hurt. We enter tonight at 9-11. I'm quite confident we would have won 4 if not 5 of our cancelled home games (RMU, YSU, Green Bay, IUPUI, Oakland). That would make us 13-12 right now. For argument's sake, let's assume we don't win the HL but lose in our second tournament game. That gives us 9 more games. A 6-3 finish would put us at 19-15, and that looks a lot better than 15-14. A 5-4 finish would leave us 18-16, with the nation's leading scorer (?). I think that's an invite. But at 14-15, perhaps not. Anyway, the key is for the team to focus on winning, not the odds of getting into a tournament for also-rans. Let's start with a big win over Bob Morris tonight.

I believe it's 148 teams that will now have postseason play - how special.. Well there are approximately 360 D1 MBB teams. So it's well less than half. And if you are a mid- or low-level major who doesn't have a shot at the NCAA unless you win your conference tournament because the 8th- and 9th-place teams in the Big 10 or SEC MUST make the big dance, it's nice to have another postseason option Sort of like bowl games. Yes, maybe some "undeserving" teams get to go, but I've heard very few people complaining about "too much" college football or "too much" college basketball. Especially in a year when we might not have MLB until may, thanks to the greed and stupidity of billionaire owners.

You're probably right. 148, although it seems like a lot, is still a pretty good level of basketball team. Although we've played much better lately and looked pretty good last night (is the team finally gelling or was the competition just that bad??), based on all the various accepted metrics, we are still a long way from 145 ( bracketologists.com/team/detroit-titans). The sub .500 record hurts us, but being #4 in our conference (based on metrics) might help (4 tournaments - Horizon gets 1 team in each??)

Playing in a post-season event, whichever it is is better than turning in your uniform at the end of the season and going home. AD could easily be MVP in a post-season even, and if it's not the NCAA or NIT, he should play in a CIT Or CBI or whatever it's called.
