It’s not about the X’s and O’s It’s about the Jack’s and Joe’s.

Catch you guys next year. We’ll see how hard they work through the off season. Home court is huge! Looks like all 4 seeds win! At least today I found out what Keeps is.

26% shooting from the field, Davis just 1-8. Lucky to be down by just 10 points. Shooting 27% from the field with about ten minutes to go. Missing a lot of open shots. Davis 2-13. 36.7% for the night. Shooting picked up a bit at the end but NKU’s offense more than kept up. Davis 5-17, 1-7 from three.

“Titans Championship Run Comes To An End At NKU” - University of Detroit Mercy Athletics detroittitans.com/news/2022/3/3/mens-basketball-titans-championship-run-comes-to-an-end-at-nku.aspxA line in the game wrap says “The Titans will now wait to see if they are invited to a postseason tournament.” FWIW, Davis also mentions possibly playing in a postseason tournament in the postgame interview, specifically referencing the CBI and CIT (which recently morphed into “The Basketball Classic” tournament). Here’s a link to a thread discussing the new tournament on the block: udtitanbasketball.freeforums.net/thread/1394/basketball-classicWith the loss, the Titans’ KenPom ranking falls to #233, not even on the top half of D-1. But it sounds like Davis is interested in playing some more games and may even be doing a little bit of campaigning to get an invitation.

When you have only 6 assists all game and your star player has 5 turnovers it's tough to win. Add to that multiple drives to the basket followed by missed layups (I counted 7) and that's a recipe for disaster.

We will need to find someone to replace Willy's teamwork, intensity and attention to the little things that matter. It'll be important to find a "big" who has those intangibles along with enough size & strength to clog the middle, willingness to take a charge and hustle to the corners the way he does on the back line of the 1-3-1.
That being said, I really think that if Akec comes back he'll be our key returnee. I think DJ & McAdoo can have really good extra seasons and am happy they will return. Even though Brandon hurt us last night, I would take a healthy Akec over a healthy Brandon because he does many things on the floor and uses his size and length on all 90 feet of the court.
I am personally so sick of "waiting til next year" but this COULD be the year where we finally have a returning nucleus and don't have to wait half a season to "gel". Do we have a group whose first instinct in every game, in every moment, in every opportunity...is to go 100% and sacrifice for the team? This has to be the 5 guys on the floor plus those on the bench. Do we have enough of those guys with an instinct to go 100 mph every second for each other?
Sorry to say, but I still don't know the answer to this question. Based on this season, my answer right now is NO/MAYBE. Can AD be a JJ type leader (JJ the player, not JJ the coach) and elicit that kind of team-first mentality 24/7? I know I sound old with this line, but that's the only way I see us returning to the Glory Days.

We have a long off season to diagnose what went wrong and where we look to be for the 22-23 season, but adding on to the points above...
I'm also iffy about what our prospects are for next season, in line with 1983s comments. In the PRO column is that we should have a ton of continuity which is is something we've never had in MD's helm so far (for various reasons). That lack of gelling surely has cost us games over the past few years so hopefully that can be a big plus.
BUT...this team did end up with an RPI of 230 was it? So we are returning alot of a team that was terribly mediocre both overall and ranked 7th in a pretty bad HL. I know we lost some games that we probably would have one, fair point, but they were home against bad HL teams so our RPI wouldn't have rocketed up from those. Now, if this team was an RPI in the 100-125 range and returning as much as we are then for sure there'd be cause for excitement.
And as good as AD is most nights, the HL has had 4 years of playing against him and clearly haven't had an issue withering whatever he can throw at you especially when he's hot. Is he not making the rest of the team better? Is the scheme not maximizing all the players on the court? Are the players actually not of a caliber that we need to be conference favorites? I kinda think its all of the above. It's not a knock on AD, but he hasn't gone red hot and just carried and willed the team on a HL tourney run to even the semis much less a crack at the title game.
Yes we beat the top teams in the HL this year and that shows we can run with anyone, well except for Oakland who continues to have our number. So we surely have a shot at things next year just like we did last year and this year. Odds on favorites? Nah, based on the cracks we've seen on this team and program just can't put money down on that at this point.
Good season Titans, you battled hard and played as a team which was fun to see happen. The Titan Way even. Hit the weight room, get those shots up (and Coaches get started on next season starting today!
