Settle in for a great night of ball.
7:00 PM St. Peter's vs Purdue. CBS. David and Goliath. I think Goliath is just going to be too big.
7:30 PM Marvin Barnes vs Danny Manning. TBS. I'm rooting for Providence but my gut tells me Kansas is too good.
9:39 PM Michael Jordan vs Lew Alcindor. CBS. Blue bloods North Carolina and UCLA mix it up. So much history with these two programs.
9:59 PM Rick Barry vs Jeff Grayer. TBS. 10th seed Miami and 11th seed Iowa State are crashing the Sweet Sixteen. Reminder: Iowa State won two games total last season.

Purdue's collar is getting tight...

Doesn't matter if Purdue has a huge size advantage if they just keep chucking up threes. 4-18 so far.

Friday, March 26 St. Peter's 67, Purdue 64.
Kansas 66, Providence 61. North Carolina 73, UCLA 66. No St. Peter's ripp-rapp here. Blue-bloods only. Miami 70, Iowa State 56. A weak year for the ACC, but they've got three Elite 8 teams.

Well well here these Coach Davis Heels are a step away from the final four via the 8 seed line. This heels team clearly isn’t a classic great one overflowing with elite talent. They aren’t deep, their starters played all but 15 minutes last night. They just find ways to win and the guys each play their roles and play tough. What a fun run all around, it’s what makes the tourney great.
I’m not peaking ahead but…the coach k coronation tourney could mean a final four match up with unc which crazy enough would be the first time the rivals ever play in the ncaa tourney. My anxiety isn’t prepared for that potential match up just yet, and still work to do before it’s a reality.

They have a battle on their hands tomorrow, but I expect them to have a good game plan. This has been quite a year for Tar Heel fans.

2 Villanova’s 50-44 win over 5 Houston in the Elite 8 to book a ticket to the program’s 7th Final Four. The Cougars were abysmal from behind the arc too. Houston was 1-of-20 from three. Yes, 1-of-20. Its only made three of the game came with 16:14 to go and who were denied making consecutive Final Four appearances for the first time since 1982-84 during the Phil Slama Jama era. Could A. Davis made a difference if he didn't de commit to the Cougars?
The last time they played in the Elite 8 was in 1983 (Kansas City, Mo) Houston 89 - 71. Pay back nearly 40 years ago. Wow I'm getting old. Future Hall of Famers Clyde Drexler and Akeem Olajuwon for the Cougars. These Cougar teams advanced to 3 consecutive NCAA Final Fours, 1982, 1983, and 1984. I was always surprised that the two players never won a championship. They where denied a championship by Patrick Ewing.
2 years later Villanova wins 1985 Championship vs. Georgetown.

Sunday, March 27
NCAA Kansas 76, Miami 50. Hard to believe the Jayhawks trailed by 6 at halftime.
North Carolina 69, St. Peter's 49. UNC didn't wait 'til the 2nd half to dominate. Blueblood versus the ultimate upstart, and the Aristocrats destroyed the peasants of St. Peter's like the Loyalist Army crushing Flemish peasants at the Battle of Cassel.

My Dad was Flemish, Commish. He said Belgium was always the first place overrun when war broke out in Europe. It was the path from Germany to France.

The Basketball, ahem, Classic
Coastal Carolina 69, South Alabama 68 (OT). The Classic had a classic semi-final. South Alabama jumped out to an early 12 point lead but couldn't put the Chanticleers away, who sent it to overtime on a three pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation. There it got better, as Rudi Williams knocked down a three just before the final buzzer to win it. The Jaguars finish 21-12, while the Chanticleers advance to the final with a 19-13 mark. Attendance was 1013.
Fresno State 67, Southern Utah 48. Before an announced crowd of 3006 in Fresno, the Bulldogs held the Thunderbirds scoreless for over 7 minutes early in the game, and were never threatened after that. Southern Utah finishes 23-12; Fresno State will take a 22-13 record into the final against Coastal Carolina.
