It's being reported that New Mexico coach Steve Alford has been hired to a seven year contract worth 2.6 million per year to coach UCLA.
So basically, Alford signed a ten year contract extension at NMU, just one day before he he got upset in the first round of the tournament by Harvard. Now, less than two weeks later, he's taking the UCLA job? That's college sports for you.
I don't think UCLA got the upgrade over Howland that they were looking for.

Yeah, but I'm sure that 10 contract at New Mexico was a good bargaining chit.

Wow! So UCLA was turned down by the coaches of Virginia Commonwealth and Butler. John Wooden must be rolling in his grave.
