I know a person who provides housing to some of the kids at Huntington Prep, and says that Bridges is as nice, humble, and thoughtful a kid as they come. Having made this decision--one I think more kids should make but that is really hard to do--I really hope Bridges has a monster season, wins B10 POY, and MSU is NCAA runner-up to the Titans.

Yeah, I'll gladly take that outcome. :-) In the age of instant gratification, so many players jump at the NBA before they are physically, emotionally, and/or mentally ready. For some, it works out just fine, even if they aren't that good. The money for a first round contract is great, and some second round picks are getting multi year contracts now. For others, leaving college early is a big mistake, but those players just kind of fade away without being talked about much, and they don't become part of the common narrative. However, a player who goes undrafted, kicks around in the D League for awhile, and then finds himself out of basketball without a degree is probably having second thoughts. There's nothing wrong with taking the route that Bridges and some others have taken. Enjoy another year or two of college while you mature. There is no downside to that. Others have said the same things about Bridges that your acquaintance said. Seems like a really solid young man. Even if I wasn't a Spartan fan, I would root for him.

Mixed news on the injury front for Michigan State and the two front court players who missed all of last season with injuries. Fifth year senior Gavin Schilling returned to practice this week and has been cleared to play. Sixth year senior/grad transfer Ben Carter is working out but is not expected to be cleared for contact until September. Schilling, if healthy, will be an important part of the Spartan rotation, adding experience and depth to a group that includes returnees Kenny Goins and Nick Ward, along with freshmen Xavier Tillman and Jaren Jackson. I'm not sure what to expect from Carter, who was a decent player at UNLV before the injuries. www.fanragsports.com/news/michigan-states-ben-carter-participating-workouts/
