The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse ranks Detroit Mercy among top universities nationally | University of Detroit Mercy The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse ranks University of Detroit Mercy among the top institutions of higher education in the United States for 2024, according to results released Sept. 6. This year, UDM was ranked No. 52, making it: • Michigan’s second highest-ranking university on the list. • Fourth among Catholic institutions, behind only Georgetown University, Boston College and University of Notre Dame. • The third-highest ranked Jesuit university and only Mercy institution ranked. I usually take these type rankings with a grain of salt, but this is really a "wow" report that can be used by the University to communicate its value and strengths to prospective applicants. www.udmercy.edu/about/news/articles/2023/09-07-wall-street-journal-ranks-udm-among-top-universities.php

The Journal's ranking--which involves major changes to the criteria used vs. their past rankings (and most others)--tries to center around the commercial value of the degree, i.e. how long does it take for the degree to pay for itself; how do graduates do economically compared to the typical graduate of a college.
This is a very good ranking for UD, placing it way ahead of a number of schools generally considered "more prestigious." Can't hurt as the University looks to boost enrollment and credentials.

It's such an incredible ranking, and so much higher than other rankings we've received, that I'm flabbergasted. To be ranked ahead of Loyola (all of the Loyolas, in fact), Dayton, DePaul, Xavier, Marquette, Gonzaga......and 2nd in the state (ahead of MSU and K College presumably, behind only U-M!!!!). Hard to believe but we should run to the highest mountain and sing this music til we can't sing any more!

Oakland is 189. Wayne State is 347. (We tied Cal Berkeley.)
One of the main criteria is how long it takes to pay off the net cost of the education. For a private school to be competitive with state schools is pretty awesome. Another is graduation rate, and Detroit Mercy blew away both WSU and Oakland. Most of the ranking came from how the education was perceived by the students -- preparation for a career, would-you-recommend-the-college. We suffered a bit (not as much as I would have thought) on facilities.
Overall, very proud and a remarkable accomplishment.
