The ladies beat Northern Kentucky today at Calihan. They are now 10-4 over all and 3-0 in conference. Had a 20 lead let it slide to 7 then came back and won going away.

I watched the whole game. These women are so much fun to watch. They pass the ball around, they play smart, they are extremely well coached. They play much more intelligently than 5he men’s team.
Let’s give the AD some credit for bringing in Coach Kate.

What's up with Annika Corcoran? Didn't even see her on the bench.

What's up with Annika Corcoran? Didn't even see her on the bench. Coach stated she was sick and would not be there today during the pregame chalk talk Q & A.

I might have missed the reference, but the female announcer on ESPN+ (she's really really excellent) kept referring to a key NKU player who was out. But neither she nor Denny ever made a reference to Corcoran being out. I don't know why we do this at U-D. It's like, when a player is out (for whatever reason) they turn into a non-human. I realize that sometimes you have to be careful about exactly what you say about a player absence (for example, if it's related to failing a class, you might have to say "due to academic issues") -- but we shouldn't just pretend a player not on the bench isn't on the team -- all of a sudden, as of today. It's so rude to the player and to the fanbase to ignore a player entirely. I'm glad Achter mentioned it during her talk, at least.

I hope they publicize these better in the future. She detailed the NKU team and what they expected them to do. She then detailed our plan to stop them as well as how we would attack. This team executed her plan in the first half. Then when NKU adjusted in the second half, she went to plan B which she had also shared with us. After her presentation she answered a variety of questions. She said do not be surprised if the team had a poor start after a ten day layoff. They did take a couple of minutes to get started. Vowels should receive credit for this hire. He moved quickly and decisively when Kate became available. Let's hope that continues. Kate is a go getter and doing things the right way. She has a five year plan for success. This team is well on the way to meeting the year two goals. I am an unabashed fan of Coach Kate and this team.

Gives me hope for a future winning men’s program also one of these years!

The AD got lucky with Kate, she is an excellent coach, and she teams are fun to watch and will keep getting better, Vowels got lucky, we could have gotten a WBB like MD.

And Bob Calihan got lucky with Dick Vitale. So what's your point? Luck is always a part of everything. When a ball rolls around the rim and finally drops at the buzzer to win a game, isn't that partly luck?

Thought I read somewhere on here that there was quite a bit of pressure put on Vowels to hire Coach Kate. She might be his first hire here that wasn’t one of his Cronies or a friend of a friend. That’s how Viwels got the job he had prior contact with Garibaldi.
