*Teams entering D-I are listed with an RPI of .300, which was the lowest last year in D-I (Grambling, .3003)
Interesting to note the high ranking for the American Athletic (i.e. Big East leftovers) Conference. They'll likely fall in the future, starting next year when Louisville (and Rutgers) leave, and with Cincinnati and UConn eying the exits. But their #4 ranking pushes everyone down a notch from the get go, since the Big East retains a high #3 ranking.
The Horizon, by passing Conference USA, remains #12 overall. CUSA took a huge hit, falling all the way from #11 to #21. For the time being, CUSA is finished as a basketball power. The WAC also fell apart in the off-season and put itself back together with whatever it could find, with the result being it drops from #13, just barely below the Horizon, to #29. The Southland was another conference to drop, adding 4 low level programs. Long term that may be good for the league, short term it clubs their RPI.
Our friends in the MAC stayed at #17, being passed by the Summit and Patriot, but passing CUSA, the WAC, and the Sun Belt. Despite losing their recent flagship, Oakland, the Summit moved up 5 spaces, the result of adding a good Denver program and dumping UMKC, a drag on their RPI.
Nothing to take too seriously, but perhaps a little feel for how conferences will look in 2013-14.
