This article on the challenges that result in closings at small private liberal arts schools focuses on Donald Taylor's previous school, Cabrini University, that is about to close for good. Indeed we should be grateful for some of the "female-focused" programs we have, particularly in the medical science fields. Our enrollment, national academic program rankings, and financial picture are all improving, which bucks the national trend. It looks like Dr. Taylor has started putting his imprint on the Athletic Dept. and capital improvements needed there (both large and small). www.cnn.com/2024/04/13/us/private-colleges-closing-enrollment-decline/index.html

Thankfully we are bucking the trend, let’s hope we stay that way. The new College of Optometry should help both undergrad and of course grad enrollment. I’d still like to see a medical school to go along with dental and the new optometry programs as there are many shared costs in the first two years, plus it would really help differentiate us. Then we could rename the school the University of Detroit and the health related programs the Mercy College of Health Sciences to appease both U of D and Mercy.
