DePaul adds to the class of 2019 as Chicago native Terrence Shannon, Jr. verbally commits to the Blue Demons. If Romeo Weems and Shannon follow through and sign their NLIs in November, they will join Arkansas transfer Darius Hall on the 2019-20 Demons. Should be a nice upgrade to the roster with some of the returnees and whoever else they might sign. It's big for DePaul to land a kid from Chicago Based Mac Irvin Fire AAU team, and big for them to land a Chicago kid with high major offers. Illinois wanted Shannon bad. Too early to tell if this is a start of a turnaround for DePaul, but it can't hurt. I'm hopeful. www.suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2018/08/12/terrence-shannon-depaul-basketball/247sports.com/player/terrence-shannon-46054973Basketball throws another gut punch at the Blue Demons as top 100 player Shannon de-commits from DePaul one week after he committed and re-opens his recruitment. Incidents like this are why: 1. I would go crazy if I was a college basketball coach. 2. Tom Izzo pretty much refuses to recruit City of Chicago kids. As he said, there are lots of "middlemen" and lots of outside influences on the kids there. Back to the drawing board for DePaul and back to sadness for DePaul fans like me.

I also don't know what is with so many of these kids. Look, I can understand you verbal in November of your junior year, and sometime 10 months later you've had second thoughts, you feel you've changed, or your family situation has changed, or your best friend has accepted at State and wants you to join him, or the assistant who first recruited you has moved, or something. But this "Blessed to say I'll be continuing my career at Dear Old State and... Oops. Never Mind" just seems absurd. C'mon kids, this is serious. Put a little thought into it. Like you say, lots of people whispering in their ears, and they're just 17 or 18, but still... What is stranger--that or grown men with mid-6 figure salaries having to work with this? I recall a mom of a top recruit telling me once how the recruit decided he wanted to go watch his friend's baseball game, so all these high-powered coaches trudged along.

Commissioner, this isn't DePaul related but it fits in with your comments above. Kyle Sturdivant, a top 150 ranked player, verbally committed to Georgia yesterday afternoon...and de-committed from Georgia a few hours later.

"Committed" just doesn't have the meaning it used to, I guess.

Oscar Lopez, Jr., a three star guard in the class of 2019, verbally committed to DePaul. He had offers from Colorado and Georgia Tech, and had recently visited Colorado. Hopefully this one sticks. The Blue Demons have had bad luck with recruits lately. 247sports.com/player/oscar-lopez-46055062/

DePaul, still stinging from the de-commitment of Class of 2019 ESPN Top 100 Chicago native Terrence Shannon, gets some good recruiting news as Class of 2019 ESPN Top 100 Chicago native Markese Jacobs commits to the Blue Demons. Jacobs was previously a Kansas commit, so hopefully he will stick with his hometown team. DePaul has experienced a resurgence in their recruiting, but they have got to win some games this year. The class of 2019 is potentially a very good one for program, and an above .500 season for 2018-19 will ensure some momentum as that group hits campus. www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/221110/markese-jacobs

Looks like Romeo Weems has held to his commitment--he's supposed to sign this afternoon. A top-50 catch for the Demons.

Sheesh, DePaul blew a 15 point lead in a road loss to Northwestern. It's tough being a Blue Demons fan.

Nice win for DePaul today as they beat #24 St. John's on the road, 79-71. This was DePaul's first road win over a ranked team since 2015. The Storm were without starter Shamorie Ponds. Femi Olujubi, who played at Oakland for two years before transferring to North Carolina A&T before going to DePaul as a grad transfer, scored 27 points for the Demons. That's two wins in a row for DePaul, who clipped Seton Hall by one in their previous game.
The Blue Demons are 10-5, 2-2.

Thanks, Scout. That is potentially big news for DePaul.
