George Mason, huh? Yeah, no one from Michigan gets offers like that! :-)
So, he left the state and missed a year playing in his hometown in front of family and friends so he could get the George Mason offer. Okay...

Devon Daniels will be going to Prolific Prep next year, presumably never to be heard from again. IN the latest Scout 100 ratings for the class of 2016, Daniels comes in just outside of the Top 100, the second guy listed after number 100. That's a big jump year to year for him. Sounds like he was making good progress there under Ramsey Nichols.

This isn't a Michigan kid (he's Canadian) and I don't know much about him, but the name of the prep school he is going to attend doesn't give the impression of a sterling academic institution. Barry Hayes @hoopstarscanada 4m4 minutes ago 2016 pg Ahmed Ali (John Polanyi/@deenupathletics) will attend Bigger Than Basketball #Prep @johnpolanyici this year. The URL I found for the BTB Academy website no longer exists, but they do have a twitter account. twitter.com/deenupathletics

Here's an interesting article focusing on Josh Jackson's mom. She raised eyebrows a couple of years back when she said that Josh wasn't getting recruited by anyone and had no offers. Of course, this was after his sophomore year when he ranked by some as the top player nationally in the class of 2016, with offers reported from several high majors. When he went prep she presented it as a move for better exposure and better competition, but in this article she focuses on the academics and protecting Josh from all the bad people out there who want to take advantage of him. www.freep.com/story/sports/college/michigan-state/2015/12/04/josh-jackson-basketball-recruiting/76797766/

Josh Jackson, by some reckonings the #1 player in the nation, cuts it down to Arizona or MSU. No way he gets that MSU offer without leaving Michigan to play in empty gyms thousands of miles from home, right?

No way he gets that MSU offer without leaving Michigan to play in empty gyms thousands of miles from home, right? You're right. He could have made the same mistake as that Cassius Winston kid from UD Jesuit. He stayed there on Seven Mile, winning championships and becoming a legend in front of family and friends. Where'd Cassius end up anyway? Youngstown State? Michigan Tech?

Remember how surprised I was when Evelyn went to Nebraska? He only played a total of 88 minutes all year. Looks like he is leaving the program. Verbal Commits @verbalcommits 15m15 minutes ago Nebraska G Bakari Evelyn (FR) is leaving the program. (HT @huskerhoops) verbalcommits.com/players/bakari-evelyn …

Evelyn seemed to be another of those "how not to handle recruitment" players. He left Southfield Christian, supposedly to transfer to Detroit Consortium, but in the end simply missed a month of his junior season and still ended up at Southfield Christian -- in the meantime missing game experience, missing a repeat All State recognition, etc., although he did return in time to lead them to another state Class D title. Then he transferred out of state and was never heard from again.
But it seemed to work out for him well enough, ending up at Nebraska. Now he's off again. We'll see what's next.

Guard Demetrious Lake of Holland will flee Michigan to attend Montverde Academy in Florida next year. He'll be a senior. Lake was on the Free Press "Dream Team" this year, Class A 1st team AP, 2nd team News. He was also 1st team Class A for Bankhoops, but just 7th team for Prep Hoops Michigan. Lake is a major league scorer--over 31 ppg this year, 25.4 as a soph-- but while he's gotten some decent interest, he's not gotten offers. The Titans have scouted him but not offered to my knowledge. He's also a good enough football player he could get offers for that sport.
I haven't seen him and don't know why he's not gotten offers. Maybe he doesn't play "d"; maybe it's because at 5-10/5-11 he's a bit short; maybe it's academics; maybe something else. Anyway, it seems more understandable than some of the other exits we see why he might think the out-of-state prep can help him get over the top, whatever that weakness is.

Trent's decision reminds me of Josh Jackson's decision to leave Detroit for Prolific Prep. It probably makes on difference to his recruitment; he's already got offers from all the blue chip programs and can pretty much pick his school.
