Dave Gavitt's original vision of a powerhouse conference of hoops only schools is rejuvenated and lives on. Getting rid of the football schools was the best thing to happen to the Big East since the 1985 Final 4.

And to wallow in nostalgia and beat a dead horse and use too many cliches, this would be one heckuva conference, if not quite on par with the Big East:
Loyola (2018 Final 4) Butler (2010/2011 national runner up) Xavier (Elite 8, 2017) Dayton (Elite 8, 2014) Marquette (Elite 8, 2013) St. Louis Evansville Detroit (we'd be finishing last every year, but the potential for immediate relevance would be there, with good home games etc.)

Thanks for posting that MCsam, the author of that piece needs to do more homework, he stated that Heavy D is Tuckers godfather, however, he shold have wrote that in the past tense because Heavy D past away over 7 years ago.

St. John's moves to 10-0 for the first time since 1982 with a 73-58 win over Wagner. They don't have any individual wins that make you really take notice, but they have wins over so-so Power Five teams like Georgia Tech, Rutgers, and Cal. Their last two non-conference games are against St. Francis and Sacred Heart. They could be 12-0 entering Big East play.

Tonight is a big night in the Big East. DePaul travels to Marquette, with the chance to pick up a BIG win and improve their post season hopes. The Demons are 11-6 and 3-3, but they are going to lose some games down the line and need a big signature conference victory on the resume. 12th ranked Marquette is 16-3 and 8.5 point favorites. They are 5-1 in the Big East.
Also tonight, Providence travels to Xavier. Both teams are feeling their NCAA hopes slip away. Providence are 11-7 and Xavier is 11-8. Providence is missing AJ Reeves, but a conference road win gives them some confidence. Xavier has to defend home court in this situation.
If you are interested in watching some good old Catholic league basketball tonight, Fox Sports 1 has these two games as a doubleheader. The Friars and Musketeers kick things off at 6:30 PM Eastern, followed by Ray Meyer's team versus Al McGuire's team.

Providence got the win they had to have, even thought they tried to give it away at the end. DePaul fought hard but fell short against the Golden Eagles/Warriors.

Georgetown was idle on Wednesday, but got a big win on the recruiting trail when Qudus Wahab, a four star 2019 center, committed to the Hoyas. Georgetown beat out several rivals for that commitment.

Big East is really weird this year. Half way through their conference schedule, they've got just two teams with winning conference records, Villanova (8-0) and Marquette (8-1). Everyone else is below .500, with either 3 or 4 conference wins. So you've got 2 teams winning all their games against the rest, and 8 teams basically all splitting with 1 another.
The end result could be just 2 teams in the tournament. Before last night Lunardi had 4 in, but that included Seton Hall, one of his last 2 teams in, and St. John's his 5th from the bottom. Both won last night (Seton Hall over Providence, St. John's over Creighton) so they may be a bit more solid, but not much--and remember that upsets in conference tournaments could knock a couple teams out. And the flip side is that he had Creighton and Butler in his first 4 out--but both lost last night.
At this early point, it looks like 4 conferences (Big 10, ACC, Big 12, SEC) would make up half the total field and 29 of 36 at-large bids.

That stat jumps out at me, but I really shouldn't be surprised. Those big conferences always get the benefit of the doubt, and it seems like every new "metric" that is created to evaluate teams is slanted towards favoring the big schools.

Past three games for Georgetown. Good win over Seton Hall, 32 point loss to DePaul, and a road win against #16 Marquette. HOYA PARANOIA!
Also, Nova lost to Seton Hall, but the G'Town win meant that Marquette finishes the regular season a game behind Nova in the standings. The Wildcats win the Big East again, after losing four players to the NBA.
