Heard today that Villanova is playing in the Finals of the Big East tournament for the fifth straight year. Great run for Jay Wright and company.

It was a decidedly down year in the Big East, with only two teams, Villanova and Marquette, finishing above .500 in conference play. In a peculiar twist, the third place team and the tenth place team were only separated by two games.
Nova remained the class of the group, winning the regular season and conference tournament crowns. Marquette came in second, but faded bad down the stretch, losing six of their last seven games, including the beatdown to Murray State in the first game of the NCAA tournament. PJ Carlissimo's school and Lou Carnaseca's school joined Rollie Massimino's school and Al McGuire's school in the Big Dance. St. John's faded in the second half of the season, finishing 7-12 over the last nineteen games. There were reportedly the last team in the tournament, and it showed in the play in game when they got beat down by Arizona State. DePaul finished with a non-losing record for the first time in forever, and got an invite to the CBI. Butler took a dip, and was the only Big East team to finish the season with an overall losing record.
It will be a while before the 2019-20 rosters are in place for the Big East, but expect Villanova to be the favorite again.

Thank you! Forgot about the Musketeers, even as they are battling Texas on ESPN as I type this. Tyrone Hill and Derek Strong would not be happy with me.

Love the Hill/Strong reference! The Twin Towers that began the resuscitation of Xavier hoops!

What's going on at Butler?
Joey Brunk and Jerald Gillens-Butler are transferring.
Brunk is a Redshirt sophomore but is a grad student.
Gillens-Butler broke his hand and did not played much since he was recruited by Holtman in 2017.

Freshman guard Jahvon Quinerly is transferring from Villanova. He was an ESPN five star recruit in the class of 2018, but never really found his stride at Nova, appearing in 25 games and averaging 3 points. He had a ton of high major offers and will be in demand.

Both Hauser brothers from Marquette have entered the transfer portal.

Good news for Big East fans.
From Jon Rothstein on Twitter: Syracuse and Georgetown are renewing their home-and-home series starting next season in Washington D.C., per Jim Boeheim. Return game at the Carrier Dome in 20-21.

Georgetown is stepping up their non-conference schedule, after a relatively soft schedule last season, reflective of a team in development.
From Casual Hoya Twitter account:
"Georgetown's much-improved non-conference slate in 2019-20 now includes Syracuse, Oklahoma St., Big Ten team TBD (Gavitt Games), SMU, and 2 of Duke, Texas and Cal (Empire Classic). Buckle up."

Jon Rothstein with an interesting observation. Might be a bounce back year for the Big East in 2019-20.
"Villanova brings in the Big East's best recruiting class & has the pedigree of a blue blood, but Cats also lost Phil Booth and Eric Paschall. Georgetown, Seton Hall, Providence, Creighton, & Xavier all return at least four of their top five scorers."

One thing I always like to see is a Detroit kid joining one of my favorite teams. Detroiter Myron Gardner, formerly of Detroit Loyola and currently at Spire Institute, signed with the Georgetown Hoyas. Gardner is ranked as a four star recruit on ESPN, and as a three star recruit by others.
