Coach Watson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday. It is a well deserved honor and hopefully not the last time the University pays a public tribute to this man. His roots with U of D go back beyond the start of his head coaching tenure. The first time I saw him coach a game in person was when he led Anderson Hunt and Detroit Southwestern against Steve Smith and Detroit Pershing at Calihan Hall. I remember watching the conference tournament in Coach Watson's first Titan season, when the Titans made that run to the finals and upset LaSalle, Xavier and Evansville to win the tournament. The NCAA tourney wins in later years over UCLA and St. John's remain some of the biggest wins in Titan history. He is a legendary figure in the Detroit basketball scene, a Motor City native who made his name and fame here and never left. Eventually, the University needs to do something that recognizes his impact on the school and on the City. www.detroittitans.com/news/2014/12/8/GEN_1208144731.aspx
