I felt 3 years ago Brannen was the best coach in the league. He did everything right and his timing was spot on. Now we have the best coach in the league.

Everyone is getting out of the Horizon but us. Coaches, recruits and fans are leaving as we speak. Its seems the quality of the Horizon League is better than I thought. I wonder if anyone will try and steal LaCrone away from us?

You're right Commish if there was an inquiry I am sure Vowels would check with us first before replying and any league looking for new members would also post on one of our boards before checking with the University. We might end up being a league of our own. Sort of like intramural. I wonder if the NCAA would grant us a bid if we quit beating ourselves thus being undefeated.

I wonder if anyone will try and steal LaCrone away from us? Well then think of it like this, if "Everyone is getting out of the Horizon but us. Coaches, recruits and fans are leaving as we speak." and "Now we have the best coach in the league". (definitely your opinion and not mine), then we should have no problem winning the Horizon next season and making the NCAA Tournament

As to winning the Horizon, the way this league is going the winner of the horizon might qualify for the NCAA but are we talking D1 or D2? If LaCrone can not add enough Summit teams in time, the Horizon might not have an automatic qualifier.

First of all, you don't even know who I am, so I could be at every game and you could be attacking me for simply trying to joke and look on the positive side of being in what you are referring to as a "an intramural or D2 level conference". Secondly, it's a message board - posters are entitled to opinions, some of which are going to be differently from yours. Thirdly, Kampe, who I don't personally care for, is in my opinion a better coach than Mike Davis. Whether you agree or disagree, that's all I have to say on it. I started posted on this Board to avoid this type of nonsense and bullying. I don't have time for it, it's supposed to be fun....

I didn't know I was attacking you and you are right I have not met you so there was no way of my knowing you are as sensitive and thin skinned as you are and I do hope you are at every game. I do feel the Horizon is a dead end league and we definitely do not agree on Kampe. I do enjoy your posts and look for them. Have a wonderful day.

Davis' past record suggests that when he gets a roster of his players (as opposed to the last minute fill-job he had to do last summer) he will produce better results than Kampe. That said, Kampe is a better coach than many think. However, he has not been able to get any of his HL teams to overachieve.
However, Scott Nagy at Wright State should be included in this conversation. His team improved as the season progressed. And he appears to have another solid recruiting class lined up for the 2019-20 season. Also, Linc Darner at Green Bay has proven that he can sustain a competitive team in the frozen tundra even after his predecessor's recruits finally moved on.
Brannen had a career decision to make at a time when he would have had to rebuild the NKU team that had been built around Drew McDonald, whose talent and leadership was the key to that team's success. And Brannen was good enough to recognize that McDonald was the key member of that roster. Brannen chose greater financial security for his family from a more lucrative contract at Cincy than the compensation that NKU could give him. It is an understandable decision. NKU will still be a tough team next season; but the loss of McDonald will not be replaced overnight.
If you notice a trend in coaching changes this year, the successful mid-major head coaches whose teams relied heavily upon great senior players; e.g., Wofford, NKU, are deciding to take the more lucrative offers at higher level conferences rather than remain and re-stock their rosters in lower mid-major conferences.
The HL is undergoing some change in the balance of power with members like us and Youngstown State now stepping up to challenge the pre-existing pecking order. And don't forget Milwaukee who gets two important transfers eligible for next season.

I have met Kampe a couple of times and he comes across to me as a bit of a JA as I might have to him. He has had probably some of the best talent in the league over the last 5 years and has totally underachieved. I think Kampe's best recruiter was Saudi Washington and a lot of the locker room problems are probably linked to the misfits they signed. I felt Nagy was a decent coach but his behavior at Calihan this past season was weak. I see a lot of Darner's and Baldwin's games in person. I feel we do have the right guy if he can recruit to Detroit. I watched the Texas HS boys championships and they seem to have a lot more talent than Michigan. Their teams are deeper and they have 7-8 good players per team rather than our 2-3 + fodder.

We might end up being a league of our own. Sort of like intramural. I wonder if the NCAA would grant us a bid if we quit beating ourselves thus being undefeated. Do you seriously believe we have options? (In fact, word of such invites and even exploratory options usually does get out). And what options would be acceptable to you? I've suggested joining the MAAC as a full member would be acceptable, if they wanted us. I doubt that they do, but even if they did, there is no doubt that it would increase our travel costs, and I doubt that the Titan faithful would be more excited about games with Monmouth and Rider than games with Cleveland State and Milwaukee. Do you think the OVC, a football conference, is out to snag us from the HL? Would we wish to be in the Summit with our old rivals like Nebraska-Omaha and Western Illinois, and the added cost of travel? How we just leave and go independent? You think we can't schedule now, wait until that happens. And of course, you're right--no, we won't get a bid. There are some who act like we can just join a conference whenever we want. And when objections are raised, they react as you do here--with insults, and the idea that those people just don't really have the courage to leave, or something. Sort of a "triumph of the will" philosophy--we can just bend reality to our dreams. Or maybe it's just a tantrum. Anyway, I've supported the Titans moving to a better league since at least 1991. But what we have to offer is very little--and much less than we had in 1990 or 2000, or even 2010. I hope we can turn it around. Your dedication is the kind of thing we need to do so, and I applaud you for it. But unfortunately, I fear some patience is also going to be required.
