St. John's now focused on hiring Loyola's Porter Moser - at least he is supposed to be interviewed.
Lots of mid-major coaches jumping up to power 6 or near power conferences.

This whole thread veered to the negative on the concept that "Everyone is getting out of the Horizon but us. Coaches, recruits and fans are leaving as we speak."
This was sparked by the departure of Coach Brannen from NKU. I'm sorry to see him go, but good coaches always work their way up from low majors to mid majors to power conference schools. If Brannen left for Western Kentucky or Miami of Ohio I'd be concerned, but I can't blame him for going to Cincinnati. My bet is that NKU will be following the Murray State model - bring in talented young coaches, give them support and resources, and be prepared to repeat the process every five years or so.
Player transfers are at epidemic levels but that may be about to change. The NCAA votes this week on a proposal to limit graduate transfers, and it is expected to pass. Not all transfers are grad transfers, but this will still cut back significantly on future transfers.
I'll be delighted if Coach Davis gets poached from Detroit by Houston or some other AAC or power conference school. I don't see that happening after one season of 11-20; it will happen after a few 20+ win seasons and an NCAA appearance or two. We'll thank him for his service and need to be ready to bring in the next successful coach.
Not all is gloom and doom. If some HL schools are going thru turmoil with departure of players and coaches, UD needs to take advantage of the situation. I'd love to see a strong UD program winning in a strong HL, but UD's not ready for that next season. Maybe there's an opportunity now to take a major step forward while some other league members struggle.

I've thought all along that Tim Cluess from Iona would be a great choice. He's done nothing but win there. This was his first non 20 win season and he still made the NCAA Tournament

I read somewhere that the buyout clause in the Iona contract in very difficult for St. John's to meet. In April 2018, Iona extended Cluess through the 2024-25 season.

How familiar does this sound?

I guess he's had enough of the drama Moser is said to have turned down a St. John's offer of 8 years at over $2 million per year. He reportedly earns about $900 K at Loyola. Here's a good article on his decision. www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-porter-moser-loyola-st-johns-20190416-story.html. I appreciate that Moser is loyal to a program that was loyal to him; that he's got a good recruiting class and wants to succeed where he is; that he's willing to be happy where he is. It's not like at $900 K a year he's being pauperized by staying at Loyola. Taking all that at face value--and unlike some such chatter you hear, I do think Moser deserves to be taken at face value--I think he must have seen or sensed problems at St. John's that would make it a tough job. I would guess that the odds of Moser turning Loyola into a midwestern Gonzaga, or getting a better offer than St. John's after a few more good seasons, are at least as good as having much success at St. John's.

And it's now official. Very much the same career record as our own Mike Davis; but many "experts" question this hire.

I'm kinda surprised Anderson would take it. I would think Arkansas might be a better job.

Oh. Duh. Probably a bad move by Arkansas.

Oh. Duh. Probably a bad move by Arkansas. I thought so. In his 17 years as a head coach, Anderson has never had a losing record. He's got an overall winning percentage of .649, and he's .549 in conference, with most of that time in the Big 12 and SEC. I think he is going to do better than a lot of people expect at St. John's. Some St. John fans are like some UCLA fans. (And some Titan fans, unfortunately.) They think things are the same as the program's heyday. Lou Carnesca isn't on the sidelines and Chris Mullin isn't playing. it's a new day. Actually, the leadership at UCLA and St. John's need to recognize that they don't have the stature to pull just any coach these days.
