I can remember during the years that McCallum was coach there seemed to be more than a few people consistently posting on social media about Detroit area/State of Michigan high school and college basketball. They were out there interviewing players, covering camps, etc. Seems like there are less of those guys around, and those that are don't seem to be putting up the same content. Combine that with the fact that it doesn't seem like we focused our recruiting on Detroit area players for 2019, and it has seemed to result in a lack of available information. I think Ray and Davis both subscribe to the theory of sticking strictly to the NCAA rules about not discussing recruits, so we don't even get hints from the coaches. I think the state of our recruiting for the class of 2019 is better than it looks on the surface, but that basically comes from me having confidence in Coach Davis knowing what he is doing and not allowing us to get to mid May with no idea who is going to be on the roster next season. I think if the staff wasn't pretty confident about what they had in process, we'd see them getting commits from players who obviously were Plan D types, just to fill out the roster. I will be glad when we start seeing some tangible signs, however. MCSam, I think we are probably down to our plan "e" recruits, its past mid may and its crickets from Calihan Hall. I am extremely disappointed in this staffs recruiting thus far. I wonder if Coach Davis and his staff are even more disappointed in us and our extreme lack of support.

At this point, it is reasonable to be anywhere from "Hey, I've got no worries, Coach has got this!" to "Well gee, I'm getting a little nervous because its May 17 and we still have 6 open slots on our team". There are VERY few teams in America right now with that many roster openings. And I do acknowledge we are a different beast for a few reasons and we graduated an unusually large group this year based on how many Grad transfers we took on, BUT, let's get a few signings already.

I was addressing the lack of support that has been given to athletics in general at UD. From what I can see there are a few loyal and true alumni at UD but they are far outnumbered by the unsupportive numbers and I guess I feel for them. There seems to be an unusual number who can only follow and support a winner but do really not want to contribute to what it takes to win. There has to be a major flaw at Liv. & 6 which has allowed this to happen. The disappointment I think the staff might be experiencing is that after almost a year they might be getting a feeling they were sold a bill of goods. Now they are trying to recruit good players to a bad situation where there really hasn't been a recruiting class in 3 yrs. Now they are handcuffed trying to recruit to a defective program which can not have a post season, thus fewer games for transfers who truly feel they have ability and an empty gym of fickle fans to try and sell UD to starry eyed freshmen. I would give odds that Davis was not made aware of possible pending NCAA sanctions. I believe we pay people to address compliance issues.

I'm quite sure that Davis was aware of our APR situation when he took the job. It is a public record. Also, since Jackson, Jones, and Ballantyne all requested their releases well after Davis was announced formally, I am quite certain that Davis and his staff were aware of the likely hit to APR resulting from those transfers. Nobody foresaw that JJJ and JB would not enroll anywhere for the 2018-19 season. That could not have been known until September-October 2018. By not enrolling anywhere, they are counted as dropouts rather than transfers for purposes of the APR. A dropout counts -0- points. A transfer counts 1 point.

Note that the signing period has ended (as of Wednesday). We may have some signed LOIs or not. If we do, I don't see why we wouldn't make them known.

Signed LOIs needs to be question #1 to coach Davis at dinner tonight!

I'm sure a bunch of recruiting questions will come up today. Hopefully we'll get some answers. Wish I could be there.
Remember, players can be added to the roster after the signing period ends. They just sign a financial aid agreement instead of an NLI.

I don't get why everyone is worried about LOI's. They don't apply to transfers. Mostly just for high school seniors. We knew he would build the team with transfers. I'm more worried that no transfers have committed to UD.

Spoke to one of the assistants after tonight’s event. He said we have three firm commitments in addition to Pink. A 7-1 grad transfer, a 6-11 freshman, and another grad transfer (I’m guessing BJ Maxwell). We had a 6-8 Belgium kid ready to sign but he backed out due to the APR issue. We hope to get at least two more commitments soon and look for the entire recruiting class to be wrapped up and announced in about two weeks.

Cian Sullivan (from Ireland) a grad transfer from LaSalle with 2 years eligibility remaining, is the only 7+' player listed on verbal commits, who's a grad transfer and still uncommitted. Kelvin Jones, at 6'11", from Idaho State, is the other player that is close in height, and an unsigned grad transfer. Jones is the far better player of the two, just based on scoring and playing time

I checked a national recruiting website and they list their top 76 centers and top 99 PF in the class of 2019 (the complete list with all positions is 511 players long). Now I'm not saying we'll sign a top 500 level player in the class of 2019, but not every player on the list is going high major and it kinda gives us something to go by. There are 8 unsigned players, all on the mid to bottom half of the list that remain unsigned and are listed as either 6'10" or 6'11" (close to what Rogo gave us). Two of these players have been mentioned by us before - Joe Jones and Jalen Thomas.
