Spoke to one of the assistants after tonight’s event. He said we have three firm commitments in addition to Pink. A 7-1 grad transfer, a 6-11 freshman, and another grad transfer (I’m guessing BJ Maxwell). We had a 6-8 Belgium kid ready to sign but he backed out due to the APR issue. We hope to get at least two more commitments soon and look for the entire recruiting class to be wrapped up and announced in about two weeks. I checked a national recruiting website and they list their top 76 centers and top 99 PF in the class of 2019 (the complete list with all positions is 511 players long). Now I'm not saying we'll sign a top 500 level player in the class of 2019, but not every player on the list is going high major and it kinda gives us something to go by. There are 8 unsigned players, all on the mid to bottom half of the list that remain unsigned and are listed as either 6'10" or 6'11" (close to what Rogo gave us). Two of these players have been mentioned by us before - Joe Jones and Jalen Thomas. Thanks for your research. According to Rivals, 5 of our targets are still available. I want everybody on this list. Jalen Thomas 6'8 225 C Detroit, MI. Antonio Reeves 6'4 180 G Chicago,Il Marsei Caston 6'3 170 G Jacksonville, Fla Joe Jones 6'9 220 C Buffalo, NY Tujautae Williams 6'6 170 F Chicago, Il

In the "nothing better to do but idle speculation," TJ Wicks was listed at 6-9 a year ago but high school kids grow. Not highly recruited--we're probably his most prestigious offer. Said to be a very good inside defensive presence, something we know Coach wants. Was recruited by Dildy for ChiState and offered by us after Dildy joined staff. Wicks played at Kankakee. The Kankakee Daily Journal selected him all-area with these comments: "The second Kay to celebrate back-to-back All-Area selections, Wicks wrapped up a career he spent as the area’s premier shot blocker, blocking an average of three shots per game in his senior campaign. But the 6-foot-9 center was much more than a rim protector, displaying a polished mid-range game that allowed him to average eight points per game and use his lengthy frame to snatch seven rebounds per game. Aside from the statistics, it’s anyone’s guess on just how many shots were altered — or never even attempted — because of Wicks’ imposing defensive capabilities."

I'd consider him to be the classic young big man with tons of potential, but in need of a lot of development. Funny thing is, the young man attends Kankakee HS and I'm hearing that he may be going to Kankakee Community College

Thanks, Rogo, for the information. Good to hear something.
I figured we were probably in that position, with a few guys more or less committed some others we're still working on. I think we'd all be happy to hear even some unofficial commitment news via social media, but hopefully we'll know more in a couple of weeks. I don't know enough about the players being mentioned to have a preference for who we eventually land, but I will trust the coach to make the right decisions.
We need to get the 2019 class up so we can focus on the 2020 class and beyond. And hopefully we'll get some good news on the appeal, because if what the assistant coach told Rogo is correct, it is already having a negative impact on recruiting.
Go Titans.

I indicated above that I spoke to a member of the MBB staff on Friday who told me that they hoped to have the recruiting effort wrapped up in the next two weeks. Heard from a friend who talked to Davis that evening. Coach said things were progressing but it might not be until be August that everything is finished and announced on the roster additions. Guess us fans will have to be patient and trust the process frustrating as it may be not to have more information about what’s going on in this area.

If the coach says “things are progressing but we won’t announce the recruits until August” you have to, at a certain point, acknowledge that’s what a coach would say if things were not going well. I don’t see why coach wants to wait to announce recruits as a group. If he doesn’t give us some good news on recruits soon, I think it’s fair to expect a weak recruiting class announced in August comprised of kids that were otherwise going D2 or very low D1 programs.
And it’s easy to imagine the narrative in that scenario: coach blames the post season ban on recruiting ability.

I’m not expecting highly coveted recruits at this stage of the game, just hoping that we get some diamonds-in-the-rough. Moore, Isiani, Brandon and Nguidjol were all decent contributors as late-addition freshmen a year ago IMO, so I’m thinking Coach Davis has a good eye for spotting D-1 ability that others might not see.

That’s fair. But I think for a lot of us, the hope was that the 2019 class would be more than that. Specifically, hopeful for two or more grad transfers that were already proven to play D1 ball and contribute out of the gate for AD’s sophomore season. I’m not sure I see that happening now. I’m not sure I’d rate BJ Maxwell at the level we were hoping for, although I guess that’s very subjective. And we can’t even confirm he’s coming.
I’m worried that the SI leak about Mike Davis looking to leave hurt recruitment and I’m more worried the post-season ban hurt, especially when it comes to grad transfers with 1 year left.
Diamonds in the rough are OK for two or three years down the road, but I was hoping we’d build a roster to play with AD and have a shot this winter.

Hopefully, a combination of the two is true: We'll get official word on at least some recruits over the next two weeks, and then the rest of the class will be finalized by August. Late summer would be a long time to go without hearing any official recruiting news.

A decent grad transfer who thinks he is any good at all, probably wouldn't go where the practice time is limited and a post season ban exists. A 3 star frosh isn't going to go where the ban is or where the coaching staff might be leaving. We always seem to manage to hurt ourselves every opportunity we get. This whole program since Ray left kind of looks like the 3 Stooges are running it. The present administration had better work their tails off because the are proving themselves unemployable and definitely administratively challenged.

Williams says he is down to Cincinnati, TCU, Minnesota and Northwestern State, who he says was the first school on him well before he broke out as high-major prospect.
