The one article I read said his car was just stopped in the middle of an intersection at 4:30am with him passed out behind the wheel. It’s amazing how far some people can go in their lives while hiding their alcoholism. Crazy how much his life has changed in a couple days. Thank god he didn’t hurt anyone.
My guess is that IUPUI called him and his agent saying they had good cause to fire him based on the detriment his actions have done to the program. Maybe he got a few months salary as a parting gift but probably not much more. Not a bad way for IUPUI to get out a contract with a coach with a losing record.

Coach Gardner had done some good things at IUPUI. But he lost two important players to transfer after last season. It's not good for the HL to have this occur.

I’m not saying it’s good for the HL or even IUPUI. But, let’s also be honest that when a school has a legitimate legal excuse to fire a coach with a 64-93 record they kind of lucked out in a weird way.

I don't think that IUPUI was looking to get rid of Gardner at this time. The new interim was head coach at Prairie View in the SWAC and had about a 3-6 or 3-7 record against Texas Southern when Mike Davis coached TXSU. He resigned at Prairie View when it was 1-18; but he had coached Prairie View to some decent records in his previous years there.

This is the most local news coverage IUPUI basketball has had in ... forever?

IUPUI forward Zaire Swaby is leaving the program. I hate it when the Horizon League loses its most entertainingly-named players.
