Interesting that IUPUI's AD is on the committee that imposed this result. Also, I believe that the assistant was mentioned in some media reports as an applicant for our head coach job in 2018 after Bacari's firing. Harsh punishment for a $6K payment when the bigger public schools got off much easier when their assistants took much more money. I think you are right about Murphy being mentioned as a possible candidate for us. This is a hard hit for him, because he had built a very good reputation as a coach and as a recruiter.

These penalties are pretty meaningless without a one- or two-year postseason ban. You want to stop this stuff, you have to hit the cheaters where it hurts the most.

Oklahoma State gets a good whacking--three years probation, one year ban from post-season, loses three scholarships, various recruiting restrictions. What did the Cowboys do to PO the NCAA? Former Assistant Coach gets 10 years "show cause."

Auburn gets the kid gloves treatment from the NCAA. Two game suspension for Bruce Pearl, four years probation, and NO postseason ban. The NCAA said that they would not impose a postseason ban on Auburn because the program self imposed a postseason ban last year. The joke about that is that Auburn knew it wasn't a post season team at the time it announced the ban; they were under .500 last year. Pearl gets the two game suspension, while former assistant Chuck Person gets a ten year "show cause". The NCAA does some things well and some things poorly, but it is the inconsistency that bothers me. www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/auburn-basketball-sanctions-bruce-pearl-suspension-probation-among-punishments-in-ncaa-infractions-case/

Actually, the thing they do well is run March Madness really, really well, I suspect when they get the football "playoffs" to 12 teams that will be huge also. Otherwise, they are a a heavy-handed bureaucracy.

Otherwise, they are a a heavy-handed bureaucracy. Im good with the 4 team playoff in football. More than 6 would be overkill. I have no interest in more than what it is today. Why should a 3-loss team have the same shot at being national champion as a team that finished undefeated? Especially if they're in the same conference? That would be a definite possibility if they move up to 12. To me, that turns the "National Champion" into a tournament champion only... which suits basketball better than football.

Remember, Pearl was hit with a show cause penalty for violations in Tennessee. If you want to know why coaches cheat and keep cheating, even after being caught, this is your answer.

Does anyone think a few of the decision maker at the NCAA might be padding their pockets a little. Now if the ever over seeing Federal government actually wants to do something constructive they should investigate the NCAA who along with the Olympic Committee are two of the most corrupt organizations in the world.

NCAA Division 1 basketball is a cash cow, and the cows producing the best milk always get the best feed.

NCAA Division 1 basketball is a cash cow, and the cows producing the best milk always get the best feed. Even if you are cheating to produce that milk. And if the NCAA decides not to punish you severely while they drop the hammer on a school like Oklahoma State.
