The Furman coach makes a good point--if the NCAA is going to discount Furman's #41 NET ranking, then why the hell did they introduce NET and make a big deal of it? The win at Villanova needs to count, too. If Belmont doesn't make it, you can blame it on their loss to Green Bay. I don't see how Lipscomb gets an at-large bid--as they note, it's hard to see them getting in ahead of Belmont (though they could), and it's hard to see both getting in (though it could happen). UNC-Greensboro will enjoy the NIT. Note that so far, other than their own tournaments, only one conference tournament is over that could have stolen a bid from these teams, and in fact it did. That's the WCC, which St. Mary's won. I'm not sure St. Mary's wouldn't have been picked over any of these four anyway, but it's certainly not obvious that they would have been, especially if they'd lost badly again to Gonzaga.

As I have said before, it seems like all of these new metrics are created just so there will be something that can be emphasized, manipulated, etc., to help high major teams get in.
Here's an interesting question. If regular season PAC 12 champ Washington loses to USC tomorrow, meaning someone else gets the conference auto bid, does Washington get in the Dance? Probably so, because they have an RPI of 27, but do they pass the eye test? The PAC 12 was putrid this year, and the only high major the Huskies beat in the non-conference was a bad Texas A&M team. Their last four games of league play were a loss to a horrible Cal team, a one point win against a Stanford team that finished under .500 overall and in conference, an OT win against Oregon State, and a loss to Oregon in which Washington scored a TOTAL of 47 points. Outside of beating up some bad teams in the PAC 12, Washington hasn't done much this year.

Feels like Michigan State should have gotten that number one seed that Gonzaga got. Gonzaga's claim to fame this year is beating Duke and some bad Power Five teams in the nonconference season. They piled up a bunch of wins in their mid major league and didn't win the league tournament.
Michigan State won the regular season Big Ten title, the conference tournament, and beat Michigan three times. The Big Ten had eight teams make the Big Dance. Seems pretty clear to me.

Except for the PAC 12 (Utah, Arizona, Oregon State, and UCLA), every P6 team that finished at .500 or better got an NCAA or NIT bid.

If anybody is looking for the brackets from the secondary tournaments, I moved Scout's post with the NIT and CBI brackets and CIT pairings to a separate thread on those three tournaments.

And bragging, I emphasized in several posts that that wasn't so. There was a kid at NJIT a couple years ago who I noted might break it, but NJIT wasn't in any conference (costing him a couple conference tournament games a year) and then he got injured midway through his senior year. Not at all surprised to see the record fall after 5 seasons.

Here's what I wrote Feb. 7, 2014, on the other board:
It took all of 8 years for Reddick's record to fall. It takes nothing away from Bader's accomplishment to suggest it's unlikely to last more than a decade or so. The career 3 point field goal record has never lasted more than 8 years.
Nobody will catch him for at least a couple years. But as we type there are already 2 freshmen who will be substantially ahead of Bader's freshman year totals (and remember, Bader was a starter as a freshman)- Andrew Rowsey of UNC-Ashville, and Damon Lynn of NJIT. Not saying they'll break the record (or that someone at slower pace won't), but just showing that there are already guys in the pipeline who are getting positioned to make a run at the record. Records are made to be broken.
It's a great accomplishment for Bader and even though he did most of it in the Summit, I appreciate the publicity it brings the Horizon. In addition to being a very good player, Bader has always struck me as a really nice young man, and obviously a hard working one. Congrats to Travis. No Bader haters.
