For Titan fans who needed a bit of good news this week, the Lady Titans won the Horizon Softball Tournament Championship today, beating UIC 2 straight on UIC's home field, 2-0 and 1-0. The Titans needed a sweep after losing to regular season champ earlier in the double-elimination tournament. Liz Murphy, who threw a no hitter two weeks ago, pitched both games today:14 consecutive shut-out innings for the Titans. To emphasize Murphy's excellence today, UIC was far and away the highest scoring team in the Horizon this year, averaging over 6 runs per game during the season.
The NCAA Tournament begins May 30 in Oklahoma City.

The game will be on ESPN 3. Northwestern was ranked #18 in the final national poll, and is seeded 16th in the tournament. The regional is Northwestern (43-10, host as the #16 seed in 64-team field) Detroit (31-26) Louisville (33-21) Southern Illinois (33-13)

This is a favorable placement for the Lady Titans: - Northwestern is hosting the regional as a #16 seed.
- Louisville (RPI 36) and Southern Illinois (RPI 43) are undoubtedly fine squads, but less formidable than the 2 and 3 seeds in other regionals.
- Evanston regional is close enough for Titan fans to consider a road trip.
The Lady Titans have surprised us all season long and improved over the course of the year. They will be heavy underdogs in Evanston, but who knows? They may have a surprise or two remaining.

After struggling against host Northwestern yesterday the Lady Titans made a valiant showing tonight, dropping a tough 2-1 decision to Southern Illinois (33-14). Salukis scored in the bottom of the seventh for the walk off victory, their only lead of the game. The Lady Titans are eliminated, but end the year with a winning record, an HL Championship and a fine showing in Evanston (at least in game 2). Well done.
