Remember Maxwell was dismissed from the basketball team in February at Abelene Christian. We don't know if he continued attending class for the entire 2nd semester or if he left the University at that time. I'm not saying the rumors are true or false, just giving a possible explanation.

The Titans have listed Maxwell as a graduate student in various places and presumably he’s been taking master’s level course the Fall semester. I don’t believe there is any way he would have gained admission to Detroit Mercy grad school without verification that he completed an undergraduate degree. The transfer portals show him as a grad transfer. I thought to be immediately eligible grad transfers had to enroll in a program not offered by their undergrad institution. I don’t know if that is still the case and how and when the NCAA adjudicates that issue, but perhaps there is a glitch in that component of the process.

I think this report is incorrect. But Newsday and a couple other sites list the date as 10/29. I think that's the first date they posted NCAA injury lists, though, and they just have the info wrong. But I'd like to know--it would really hurt, I think, to lose Maxwell. Your initial reaction in your first sentence is correct.

Game notes for the NC St. game have been released by Titan Athletics and list Maxwell as a probable starter.

From another thread: Since the NCAA has authorized the regular season to start in early November, it owes its member schools and their players a duty to determine each player's eligibility before the first day of the season. If the NCAA lacks the resources to review and decide these cases, then it should add them. The NCAA has created the transfer mess. It created the portal. It found a way to rule rapidly on permitting players to profit from a member school's use of their own images and likenesses. As much as I dislike Oakland when we are in competition with them, why did it take 4 months to decide Rashad Williams' case? Why did it take longer to decide James Beck's case? And why did it take the NCAA until last week to decide James Wiseman's case at Memphis? We have a player, who has not yet played, who submitted his paperwork over 6 months ago and the NCAA is just getting back to us and asking for more documentation. Yet, they were very prompt in applying the APR rules against us last May without even taking it upon themselves to reconsider the application of the postseason eligibility penalty in light of the data staring at them from their own forms. The system appears broken because the NCAA continually acts in an ad hoc and ultra-bureaucratic manner - except when their own rear ends are on the line. Totally agree re NCAA. And if the problem is late applications, they should just make clear that waivers sought after XXX date cannot be guaranteed an answer before the season starts. But who does this refer to? I'm guessing Hofman. Maxwell and Pink didn't play, but both were reported with minor injuries, and I'm not sure why either would have an issue.

Maxwell is pictured in the photo above the school's preview of the Clemson game. He is second from the left, sitting between Dwayne Rose and grad assistant A.J. Maxwell. He could not have played in both scrimmages and traveled with the team if had not been cleared. Pink had a concussion and is still recovering. Don't know about the Clemson game. Hofman did not play in the scrimmages or travel to NC State. So, I think that Commissioner's inference is accurate.
