Do you want Udemadu this year or do you want to try and get Javante Randle from Detroit Douglas next year? You and others here stress the importance of getting local players. If the coaches think we are now fine on the front line for this coming season, would you want to leave a slot open for Randle if taking a freshman big lessens the chances of landing Randle? Especially if Thompson receives a second year of eligibility. So, I'm not criticizing you or anyone else for thinking Udemadu would be a promising signing. But if we take him, the odds are that we wouldn't get Randle. All things being equal between the two players, wouldn't the local player be a better get for us - even if one year later? These are examples of the dilemmas that the coaches face in establishing a solid program that begins to flow from year to year.
Again, not saying anyone here is wrong for liking Udemadu. But there may be some longer term roster planning being done by the coaches once we received Taurean's commitment.

Udemadu had a bunch of offers early. According to Verbal Commits, however, no one has offered him since we did two years ago. I have no idea why. In the early spring he took unofficial visits to Texas A&M and Tennessee State. Usually, you're trying to take official visits at that time. (Maybe it was COVID related--no official visits allowed. I don't know). Anyway, his recruitment seems to have stalled, and it's doubtful that more than a few, if any, of the offers he supposedly had in the summer of 2018--including the likes of DePaul, Maryland, Oklahoma State--are still there.
Udemadu's school--Houston Yates--plays 4A, the third highest level in Texas. It is a strong program that turns out lots of good players, but its total enrollment is under 850 students--it's not a big school. It is a very strong program. Udemadu was on the 10-man second team 4A All-District squad--but 4 of Yates teammates were on the 8-man 1st team all district squad. I've seen some film of Udemadu on YouTube, but none from his senior year. So I don't have much idea of how he's doing. I see that seven of the first team all-district players are seniors, and none have signed anywhere--only one even has an offer reported on Verbal Commits, and that's to Prairie View. Of course, Verbal Commits doesn't catch them all, and the best high school players aren't always the best college prospects. Still, it doesn't sound like he was rated behind a bunch of 3 and 4 star-recruits.
I guess I'm saying is that for whatever reason, the kid's recruitment has stalled. I'd be happy to get him, but not heartbroken not to. We do still have an open scholarship or possibly two, and a big high school kid is a nice addition. But I'll go with the coach on who we want.

I mean, right now I'd like to think they're in our favor being that he's really not been offered by anybody but us... but your question seems to read like he is ours if we want him. Based on the offer sheet to date, it appears Udemadu (at least at some point) has been more highly regarded. I'll take him right now if I had to pick. I don't think we're in position to leave any skilled bigs on the table based on what our recruiting has looked like to this point in Davis' tenure. If he's available, you get him. You leave him on the table and risk a big senior season from Randle and a better program stealing him away.

I am a fan of getting the best possible players on the court. If they want to play local, fine if not fine also. Udemadu has a teammate "Lucky" who goes about 7' and 250-260 and if we get Allen we probably have a good chance of getting his teammate. Would Randle not want to come because he couldn't compete? If our offer for Randle is still on the table and he wants to play at home and play for Davis, then he should sign and if he doesn't want to be a Titan then why should we wait for him?
