Here is a list of players transferring out of the Horizon so far this year. I've listed their new school if known in italics. The class year is what they would have been in terms of eligibility in the coming 20-21 season.
A few quick thoughts:
1. Some have thought we are losing too many transfers. Leaving aside the talent level (other than Moore, we're not losing much), that might seem unsettling. But it's the lay of the land today. Six of the other 11 teams in the league--Green Bay, IUPUI, Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, and newcomer Purdue-Fort Wayne--are all losing as many or more player to transfer as we are, even if you don't count their preferred walk-ons who are transferring.
2. Although the poaching of good mid-major players by power schools really hurts the mid-majors, I'm also somewhat disturbed by the number of kids who transfer to other mid-majors. Not really transferring down, or up--just transferring. I think it says something about our culture. In particular here I'm thinking about Northern Kentucky's Silas Adheke, Green Bay's Manny Patterson, IUPUI's Grant Weatherford, and perhaps Green Bay's Tank Hemphill. The Green Bay guys have the excuse that their coach left.
3. On the whole, the league didn't lose a lot of talent. Players who will be missed the most include our Marquis Moore, Green Bay's Hemphill and Patterson, NKU's Jalen Tate (the league's biggest loss), IUPUI's Weatherford, NKU's Adheke, Oakland's Trey Maddox, and, though not in the league last year, Fort Wayne's Brian Patrick.
