Sad news. My recollection is that he was a prime Titan recruiting target back In the mid-1980s.

As I recall, we were recruiting him hard and there was legit mutual interest. I remember thinking we had a good shot at him, unlike the situations with Antoune Joubert and Robert Traylor.

It is sad (and difficult) to see former players younger than I am pass away. You remember them as being so healthy, so young.
DGore came to every Titan Game for at least a season and kept telling Coach Sicko he was coming. In the end, Pitt paid him to go there, along with several other bigtime recruits. Not the first (or last) player we lost to a cheating school. I remember it all well, having followed his Chadsey career while VN Sports Editor.

Very sad news, Demetrius Gore's younger brother Gabriel Gore was best friends with my older brother during their freshman year at Detroit Cooley. Their father was employed by either GM or Chrysler, he took a promotion and they moved to Missouri. I remember Norm Stewart putting the full court press on the Gores after he found out. RIP to Demetrius Gore.

I am certain that Mizzou and Norm Stewart didn't have anything to do with the job transfer. He started to heavily recruit Gore after he found out they were moving.

I never saw Gore play in person, but he was famous among the basketball crowd. I know I sound like a grumpy old man when I say it, but the fact that he couldn't make it in the NBA speaks to the strength of the league in those days. I mentioned in the Oakland thread that Kendrick Nunn averaged 15ppg for the Heat this year. No slam against Nunn, but Gore was on another level.

You are correct, I remember when the Boston Celtics cut Michael Young and he was the 24th player picked in 1984 draft, Freddie Banks was an outstanding player at UNLV, the Pistons drafted him with the 24th pick of the 1987 draft and he never played in NBA, the league has added an additional 7 teams and 105 players, I believe Gore would've played in the NBA if he had been born twenty years later. I saw Gore play in high school, and although I was only 11 years old,I remember him neighborhood a bigger and more athletic version of Tony Tolbert.
