I'm not up to date on how much progress the Titans have made on the Road to a Championship plan, but I did see that the 2023 annual RTC fundraiser will be held October 6, at Z-'s Villa in Detroit. This is good for several reasons. - It shows that the RTC plan is still alive and kicking. - The fact that it is being held at Z's (one of my favorite spots) emphasizes the connection between the University and the City itself, a relationship that could be greatly beneficial to both if strengthened and expanded. - It's a casual, fun event. That could lead to a more diverse crowd in terms of age, background, alumni status, etc. - Former Titan player Big Dan Kennedy is still a big part of this effort, and is the contact for this event. I wish I could be there. I'd certainly show up in my University of Detroit gear from Vintage Brand, but I'd be there to support and probably bring a friend or two. As it is, I'll just purchase a ticket and ask them to donate it to someone. I complain (regularly) about the things the program does that I don't like; I'd feel like a hypocrite if I didn't support the things that I do like. Go Titans. detroittitans.com/sports/2023/8/16/rtc-fundraiser.aspx

Anyone planning to attend the Road To a Championship fundraiser this Friday? I can't make it, but a couple of guys I know will be there.

From the pics on social media, it looks like it was a fun event.
Former Piston Isiah Thomas was in attendance.

I haven't seen any news about this fundraiser on the official website, but I did see a post on Twitter from the athletic department that featured four photos from the event. I hope there is more publicity forthcoming, because from my conversations with a couple of guys in attendance, it was a really good event, well attended and fun. My buddy Curt sent pics from the event to me, featuring George Blaha, Isiah Thomas, Greg Wendt, Stretch Carter, and others. Too bad we couldn't get television news on the scene. Dan Kennedy did a great job of being the contact person for this event. I reached out to him for some further information and he was extremely helpful and responsive when getting back to me. I told him I had a good friend who was coming in my place, and Dan went out of his way to make contact with him at Z's. They're buddies now. This is the kind of event that can only help, but we really need to promote the heck out of it, before and after. Go Titans.

Dan Kennedy is everything you could ever hope for in a former athlete. His continued support is spot-on amazing.
When we return to our glory days, it'll be guys like Dan who will be able to look in the mirror and realize their contributions didn't end the day they took off the uniform for the last time. Thanks Dan!

I was in Market Square Arena in 1987 when Dan Kennedy scored 18 pts in the first half of the MCC championship game vs Xavier.

Double-check…it was Mar 12, 1988. Archie Tullos averaged 25 ppg that year.

Well, unless I missed something, it appears that the only public acknowledgment/recognition that the University did post-fundraiser was that single post on Twitter/X with a total of four pics that garnered 10 "likes".
I'm not a marketing professional, but it would seem to me that the program would want to make a bigger deal out of that event. I don't know why they wouldn't push the fact that Isiah Thomas, George Blaha, and others, were part of a University of Detroit event. Seems like that would make a ripple on the local scene.
On the plus side, I have heard only good things about it from the people I have talked to who were there.

Looks like the next Road to a Championship Fundraiser is set for Thursday, October 10, 2024 at The Corner Ballpark. It's scheduled from 6P to 9P, cost is 125 bucks per ticket. I expect that details will available on the website soon.
I was happy to support this event last year, and I probably will again, but I really need to University to publicize this before and after the fact. Fans and donors want to see and hear how their money is being spent and want to hear about positive events involving the program. Last year's post event publicity was basically non-existent, despite the positive reviews I heard from people who were there and the presence of Detroit sports icons and former players. It seems to me that the University blew an opportunity to get some buzz going, beyond just the atmosphere at the event itself.

It's become a social event rather than a major fundraiser. The intention is to get more current and potential Titan fans interacting with each other in a social setting. With the Detroit focus of the men's and women's BB teams, the hope is that many more people will attend now that it has been moved to a larger venue. Everyone local should try and attend. Out of State Titans should consider sponsoring the cost of a few players to attend rather than have the event bear the cost of their food. Just saying.
