Been going to Titans games since 1973. In the past 47 years I have missed being at only a couple home openers. Let’s all stay safe and healthy until we can all meet up at Calihan Hall once again.

Sorry we haven't had game previews this year. A combination of busyness and lack of certainty as to who, when, or even if the Titans were going to play has left me unwilling to devote the time. Appreciate Sam and gang stepping in.
A few added notes on Kent State:
1) Not quite sure how Kent's preview says the Flashes has "held its opponents to 45 points per game." Let's see... a 71-64 OT loss to Virginia... a 90-41 win over little Point Park. 71+41=112/= 56. Could be a good PR Department, or perhaps more likely the guy typing it up had his fingers on the wrong keys.
2) Senior forward and Detroit Allen graduate Danny Pippen has been one of the Flashes' most reliable players for the past few years. He averaged 8.1 points and 6.8 rebounds as a soph, 14.3 and 7.1 last year, and is averaging 13.0 and 5.5 this year. The Titans, then coached by Ray McCallum, called Pippen back on June 14, 2014, the first day they were eligible for formal, in-person contact with recruits. That info was provided to us by TJMIK, an invaluable source of recruiting tips who later disappeared from both this and the other board. I have my thoughts on what happened to TJ, but I'll keep them to myself. But we've been tracking Pippin here on this board now for 6.5 years and three coaches, and it may be another if takes advantage of this free eligibilty year.
3) Kent's other top player in the early going has been senior guard Mike Nuga. Nuga, a 6-2 guard, is a transfer from Portland State, where he averaged 10.5 ppg in 2019 (he sat last year). He had 20 points and 6 rebounds against UVa.
4) The other starters are Justyn Hamilton, a 6-11 senior forward who has been a back-end-of-the-rotation player the last two years; 6-1 soph Giovanni Santiago; and 6-2 junior Malique Jacobs. All 5 starters played at least 30 minutes against Virginia, with Nuga logging 44 minutes in the overtime game. The only other guys to play much are 6-4 redshirt freshman Jeremiah Hernandez (19 minutes against the Cavaliers--0 points, 0 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover) and 6-7 Gabe O'Neal, a juco transfer (11 minutes against UVa--0 points, 1 rebound). So as you can sense, this is not a deep team. James Jordan, a 6-7 junior from Detroit, is likely to see the floor, but unless it's a blowout, not for long. Same for 6-9 soph Evan Bainbridge. The Point Park game doesn't tell us much, but against Virginia the starters did pretty much all the work.
5) History-wise, this is the 7th meeting between the schools: 1977: Detroit 81, Kent State 79 (Overtime). This was the final of the Motor City Classic, and win #7 in the 21-game winning streak. A three point play by Terry Tyler with 2:13 left ended the scoring in regulation and sent the game into overtime. Jeff Whitlow scored 4 of Detroit’s 6 points in the extra period, and Kent’s Corteze Brown missed a 20 foot jumper at the buzzer as the Titans held on against a very average Kent State squad that entered the game at 4-4 and finished at 8-19.
2004: Kent State 68, Detroit 48. This was a much better Kent State team that won 22 games.
2007: Kent State 61, Detroit 48. Another 20-win Kent State team hammered the Titans, who slumped to 11-19 that year as Perry Watson's long run of success faded.
2008: Detroit 61, Kent State 60. The Titans won the season opener in Calihan. This Kent State team went on to finish 28-7, and was ranked as high as 23rd. A good start for Detroit. But this was the season the wheels came off, and the Titans would finish just 7-23.
2019: Kent State 76, Detroit 72. The inexperienced Titans let this one get away, blowing an 8 point lead in the final 90 seconds. Antoine Davis had 30 points, but Inkster's Jaylin Walker answered with 36 for the Golden Flash.
2020: Kent State 92, Detroit 57. An embarrassment at Kent. Against Notre Dame, Detroit shaved 31 points off of last year's margin of defeat. We'll have to do better to beat Kent State.
6) Kent was for decades the doormat of the MAC. Gary Waters turned the program around in the late 90s, and they have not had a losing season since 1998. They've won 20 or more games in 18 of the last 22 seasons.
Go Titans!

Detroit is 2.5 pt dog at Caesar’s Sports Lounge. I just laid a $10 spot on them at my local casino. It’s the first bet I have ever made on my Titans in 72 yrs.

ESPN matchup predictor gives the Titans a 73% chance of winning. Odd for ESPN to be that high on an underdog. I think it’s $10 well wagered.

Under 5 mins in the first...
Kent state has gone on a lengthy run here to open a 9 point lead. Their 2 big boys are the difference right now.
Nothing coming easy on offense for the Titans. Kent guys are long and athletic across all positions.
Rose loves to have the ball, and that usually means he shoots the ball. For better or worse.
AD is just flat out off. He also gets the Rose determined look and you know he’s shooting no matter what.

We really need to win this game today to show the fan base that we're actually moving in a positive direction. Close games at both MSU and ND cannot be followed up with a home loss to a MAC team.
AD needs to start making shots. He's not resembling a player the had anyone concerned he may go pro early. He's got the skills, just needs to settle down and start scoring.
Lackluster start for the entire team today.

Half time, down 10. Bleh all around.
The lineup the last few mins was: ad, rose, Calipari, Fraser, Isiani. The offense was stagnant as can be with basically ad and Willy handing off to one another 20 feet away in hopes one of them will do something.
I didn’t see Msu or nd, so my first look here is a lot like the last 2 yrs. bol and Johnson picked up 3 fouls so had to sit lengthy amounts. Kinda surprising just how short the bench and depth is.

Just listened to the excuse factory out of Mike Davis Jr at the half. It's all about tired legs after a grueling 3 games over only 6 days. Maybe we should try to put some fresh legs on the court instead of playing only 6 guys? Otherwise, what are some of these guys doing on the roster?
Does Pink actually play basketball? If so, I've literally never seen it.
