DETROIT (2/4/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics is excited that the fall and spring sports will have an opportunity to play this year in cross country, track and field, lacrosse, softball and soccer. With that said, the Titans have announced that fans will not be allowed to attend ANY home games or events - even if held indoors - due to health and safety precautions at Titan Field and Buysse Ballpark. "I am very happy that we are able to play most of our sports this year as we work our way through the COVID-19 pandemic," said Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels Jr. "We all know the climate that we are dealing with and while I believe that things are starting to progress and we are working our way out of this pandemic, the fact remains that we must take every precaution to ensure the best and safest way to keep the health of our student-athletes, staff, and fans and this is the best decision for everyone." A majority of home events will be streamed live on ESPN3 or ESPN+. A broadcast schedule will be announced shortly.

The schedules for non-basketball sports have been released in the last couple of weeks. Men’s and women’s soccer and women’s softball are all Horizon games. Men’s lacrosse is all MAAC games, women’s lacrosse is an all MAC slate. Cross country, track and golf will be competing, but no fencing this year.

Shouldn't common sense prevail. 30-40 people in the stands at a soccer or lacrosse game cannot be unsafe. Even fewer fans (parents) at a cross country site.

How do you stop fans from watching a cross country meet? Blindfolds. They say “Detroit Mercy Titans” on ‘em.

How do you stop fans from watching a cross country meet? I suppose you could watch the soccer game from McNichols also.
