There are two Brian Boyles who have been big contributors of time, energy, and money to the men's BB team. This is not the lawyer Brian Boyle.
Yesterday was a sad one for more than just our loss. 24 hours ago, I learned that my fellow Titan fan Brian Boyle had died unexpectedly. Brian Francis Boyle was born in 1939. He graduated from St. Agatha HS in Redford Township in 1957. He graduated from U of D in 1961. He was a successful business owner in Minneapolis and in Sarasota. Beginning in Vitale's era, he was a staunch supporter of Titan basketball. And that carried over up until just before his death. He was an avid reader of both message boards. His screen name here was btzfxyk. At titanmike's board, he was joe btzfxyk. That was an inside family joke.
Here is a profile piece on his business and his son Tim whom many of you may have seen at road games over the years.
If the Titans played anywhere in or near Florida, you would likely find Brian and his son Tim there. I last attended a game with him at NC State in November 2019. Brian was such an avid Titan fan, he called me last Christmas Eve to discuss the last minute Oakland series scheduled for the 26th. At every fundraiser with Garibaldi, he would turn the matter to men's basketball and getting the program back to the success of Vitale, Watson and Ray. He liked Ray and often would meet him when Ray came to Florida. Last February, at a fundraiser after the formal program and mingling has ended, he and Garibaldi were hunched over Garibaldi's cellphone watching us play a close game against YSU. I last saw him on the Virtual Roundball Breakfast zoom call in early February and I believe he asked coach a question. Sadly, the calls and texts stopped a few weeks ago.
At the bottom of this page, in the shoutbox, you can read his last post on this forum. A great Titan fan who, in spite of all the frustrations, kept supporting the team. His energy and drive will be missed. One of the old breed whose allegiance was to U of D but who still fought on despite his frustrations over the brand. RIP Brian.
