Tony Paul says rumors are NOT true.

This is the first coaching hire for Depaul's new AD. He's not going to hire a HL coach who has won just 37% of his games the past three years. Davis is a good coach, and might actually do a good job at DePaul. But he's not the kind of hire that program needs to make to fire up fans, alumni, the City of Chicago, etc.

Wasn’t sure which tread to post this linked article from the Detroit News on. In addition to reporting the Harvey commitment, it mentions that Mike Davis is speculated as a potential candidate for the DePaul and UNLV openings: “UDM's Mike Davis still building amid job rumors, adds ex-Vandy, Notre Dame guard” www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2021/03/17/udms-mike-davis-still-building-amid-job-rumors-adds-ex-vandy-notre-dame-guard/4738440001/The article states that the buyout if Davis departs Detroit Mercy is a modest $80,000, information I hadn’t heard before: I’ve read a couple articles on the UNLV coach search, both had a number of high profile names included but Davis was not one of them. Calihanmole will be interested to hear that one name talked about is Rick Pitino.

It's Tony Paul. I can't help it but every time I see an article of his about the UD I think of Kampe and almost every article benefits Kampe in some way. I hope the 80000 buyout includes Vowels. I hope he had enough foresight to write himself in there.

Sun Times article merely repeats and cites the Goodman tweet. It’s not a ‘new’ confirmation on the topic per se.

Always remember how easy it was to get a rumor going coast to coast based on nothing but a completely fabricated post on a message board. I don't think Tony Paul is the only sportswriter who can be fooled that easily.
Davis has a much better track record than a lot of potential candidates, but I don't see him as a hire who would get fanbases and donors excited at places like UNLV and DePaul. We'll see what happens.
Ironically, Davis would probably be a hotter candidate three years ago when he was riding that period of NCAA appearances at Texas Southern.

Could it be that The Mole struck again and this time fooled Jeff Goodman? Stay tuned!

Could it be that The Mole struck again and this time fooled Jeff Goodman? Stay tuned! It will not be too funny if you cost us a couple of good recruits and another season!

Jeff Goodman tweets “DePaul is expected to narrow its search down to 3-5 finalists today, source told @stadium. Would be surprised if Cleveland State’s Dennis Gates isn’t among that group.”
The Chicago Tribune filed a report: “DePaul zeroing in on Kenny Payne — a current New York Knicks and former Kentucky assistant — to be its next basketball coach.”

Best of luck to DePaul in this search.
