I asked this on the other board, which won't load for me anymore.
I enjoy the HGTV show "Bargain Block." How close to UDM is the neighborhood these guys are helping to rehab? I've seen the tower on some of their drone shots, but that doesn't mean they are close to campus.
Nicole Curtis rehabbed some houses in the University District on her show. The more the merrier.

I would be happy to share information with you on the properties / market in the neighborhoods near the University. Each has different amenities, sizes and values. By working with me, I will have good information needed to help you find the best returns. My goal is to help you buy the investment your looking for and look forward to working with you. I’m not 100% sure, but I think this may be taking place in the Fitzgerald subdivision. That neighborhood is targeted by the City of Detroit for several development initiatives. Fitzgerald sub is just west of the University bordering Livernois, south of McNichols Road.

The hosts' business is in Ferndale at 9 Mile and Woodward. The houses look like they are not near the university. If they are on the west side, they could be in Brightmoor or along 7 Mile west of Greenfield. If they are on the east side, they could be near Conner and 6-8 Mile. They are taking small asbestos or frame sided bungalows built after WWII and renovating a bunch of them on the same block.

One of the episodes had a street sign named Clarida or Clarita. I looked on Google maps and that street runs east-west sort of near the university.
Wherever the houses are, they are improving the neighborhood, and that's a good thing.

Based upon some research, I think these houses are in different locations. Some are near 8 Mile and Livernois. Others are off the Southfield Freeway. Detroit News article

Just rewatched one episode and one of the houses they did was on Santa Rosa. I looked it up, it's only about three blocks from campus and the UD clock tower was clearly visible in the background. It was a corner house and there is a dedicated bike lane running on what I think is the east side of the house.

The show has been renewed for a second season, with 10 episodes coming next summer. Good publicity and exposure for the city. The bookstore should get these guys some UDM apparel to wear.

I don't think I've ever watched a show on HGTV, until Bargain Block was mentioned here. I ended up watching the entire season and actually enjoyed it. Good news that it was renewed for season 2. At least get those guys a U of D ball cap to wear on the show!

The Bargain Block stars have been chosen to participate in Year III of "Rock the Block." I know many of you probably don't watch HGTV, but in that world, this is a very big deal. It will greatly increase their exposure and by extension, the viewership of their show, which will expose even more to the ongoing Detroit renaissance. heavy.com/entertainment/hgtv/rock-the-block-renewed-season-3/

Season 2 begins at 9 p.m. EDT Wednesday, on HGTV. Good national TV exposure for Detroit.

Not sure where the adjoining houses rehabbed in Wednesday's episode were located. But they were the final two abandoned houses on the block. That's another step in the right direction.
Somebody get those guys some UDM gear to rep on the show!
