Wright State adds a game at DePaul. Shoot. Another HL League team that's not U of D getting a game against DePaul.

Ohio State announced its non-conference schedule today. Looks like Cleveland State's game with Ohio State fell through.

It appears that the reason the CSU/Ohio State contract didn't come off may have been that CSU wanted to play at the Wolstein Center on campus, and Ohio State wanted to play at the Quicken Loans (Gund) Arena. If that's really the issue, I think CSU probably shouldn't have taken the game at the Q.

I can understand why Cleveland State would want to play in their campus arena.
I wonder how the majority of U of D fans would feel about MSU or U of M agreeing to play us in a home and home, but only if the game was at The Palace. Personally, I think I might agree to that just to play them.

Word is that the Horizon league schedule is done. We should be getting more and more games coming out in the next few weeks.
Green Bay is still advertising to start a home & home at GB this year, and also looking for a guarantee to open the season. These ads have run yesterday and today.
YSU also has an ad up in the last week looking for a home and home. Cleveland State is seeking a guarantee and a H&H as well.

It's good to see a bunch of HL teams getting games with the high majors, even if most of them are on the road. It puts to rest the myth that it's impossible for mid major teams to get high major schools on the schedule. It takes work, but it can be done, as many HL teams are proving.

I'd guess about one-quarter to one-third of Division I schools have now released their non-conference or full 2014 schedules. They continue to trickle out at about 1 to 3 a day, with Minnesota, Rider, and Cal-Davis releasing in the last 24 hours. Several conferences have also released conference schedules, including ACC, CUSA, Summit, and others.
I've heard rumors that the Horizon conference schedule is complete. Only Oakland has announced its schedule and its clear several if not all of the other Horizon teams are still scrambling for games. I can see logic in waiting until closer to the season to release this info, when people are starting to focus on the upcoming season. I can also see releasing information in parts, big games when scheduled, or conference schedule when complete, etc., during the slow summer months.
I think either strategy is defensible. Sometimes, though, I think the strategy of Detroit and the Horizon is along the lines of "no comment." I'm not sure there is a strategy. Anyway, it's a good time waster trying to piece Horizon schedules together as other schools release their info.

You know my thoughts on it. I've seen other schools generate some conversation and interest in the team by releasing schedule information during the slow summer months. Texas Tech, DePaul, and some of our HL foes to name a few. When you release it closer to the season, I think you run the risk of it being drowned out other sports news, especially college and pro football and the high major basketball schools in the state.
The other thing about releasing scheduling information as soon as you have it is that there maybe road games that your fans would like to make plans to attend, and would like as much notice as possible to make arrangements.
Like you said, though, it's a good time waster and an interesting activity to piece together the schedules.

Horizon teams still having trouble filling out their schedules.
Wright State has an ad today at Basketball Travelers, looking for 2 more games this year.
Cleveland State posted a pair of ads Tuesday looking for a guarantee payday and to start a H&H.
Green Bay also had a Tuesday ad looking to start a H&H.

I really hope the school goes all out to push attendance for the 2K classic games at Calihan. The circumstances aren't the best, an early season tournament with no really big names, but we've got three months to come up with some ideas to get the crowds out. Discounted tickets, community outreach, the idea Reggie had about busing downtown employees to the game, etc.
It will reflect badly on the program if we have dismal attendance for those games. We'll quite possibly have potential recruits in attendance for those games, too, so it would be nice to have a decent crowd.

This is interesting: raiderroundball.yuku.com/topic/3097/Horizon-League-Scheduling#.UgR1zRZ6tUQ
" I was looking at George Mason's schedule and they posted the A10 rules as follows:
8.04 The following requirements must be met by all Atlantic 10 men’s basketball teams. The penalty for non-compliance is outlined in the Conference Constitution and Bylaws.
A. Each men’s team must maintain a 1.8 average for all non-conference games schedules. The RPI at the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament of the preceding season will be used for the pre-season analysis and the current season’s pre-NCAA tournament RPI will be used for post-season analysis. The point values are as follows:
Ranked 1-50 in the RPI: 4 points Ranked 51-100 in the RPI: 3 points Ranked 101-125 in the RPI: 2.5 points Ranked 126-150 in the RPI: 2 points Ranked 151-175 in the RPI: 1 point Ranked 176-200 in the RPI: 0.5 point Ranked 201+ in the RPI: 0 points
B. Any Atlantic 10 institution playing a non-conference game against an opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC PAC-10 or Big East will receive no less than 2 points, regardless of the team’s RPI.
C. Any Atlantic 10 institution playing a non-conference game against an opponent from Conference USA or Mountain West will receive no less than 1 point, regardless of the team’s RPI."
Detroit's 2013-14 non-conference scores just 1.47.
