5’7”. 140 lbs Calvin Murphy Tiny Archibald Rashad Phillips Take your pick. Murphy. Three-time All America with a college scoring average of 33 ppg (before the 3-point line). He had a 38-point average his first season. Shortest player (at 5-foot-9) in the Basketball Hall of Fame. And he was a national champion in baton twirling in the 8th grade and the Texas state champ when he was a Houston Rocket. Rashad is my #2.

Could Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues, the Wake Forest alum and mighty mite be in this mix? Cat could even dunk! And had a run in NBA too. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muggsy_Bogues Earl Boykins has to get some run too. Played on some pretty good EMU teams with Ben Braun as coach and Grant Long annd the Thomas brothers and in then the NBA from 1999 to 2012. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Boykins. Don't recall if Earl had the hops to dunk tho. Could hoop no doubt.

Archibald is also a HoFer; in 1973 led NBA with 34 ppg and 11.1 apg. For a pro career, I think he's the best by a pretty fair margin, even though Murphy had a great career. At the college level, I'd go with Murphy (at least unless someone reminds me of another candidate).

Murphy had a much better college career that Archibald, while Archibald had a much better pro career. My choice of Murphy was based on the context of the question being asked on our college team discussion board. Plus, Tiny wasn't tiny -- he was 6-foot-1 -- and the question was preceded by the notation that Lance Stone is 5-foot-6 or 5-foot-7. Murphy was 5-foot-9.

Earl and Grant Long were exactly 10 years apart! Earl played as an underclassmen for Braun and the leaders were Tolbert and Wilson. His two very good classmates were Dial and Head and the coach at EMU during their Jr. and Sr. campaigns was Milt Barnes!

Being in the State of Michigan and talking about small athletes how can we not mention Richie Jordan who was 5’7” and could dunk easily with a 38 inch vertical. He might be one of the greatest little athletes in history. If you get a chance read about him or watch the documentary Jordanville!

I misread 1998 (Earl) for 1988 (Grant)!. Sorry! Period!
