Chi Sox are in the running for wild card spot. I was a fan of Nellie Fox and Luis Aparicio as a youngster.

Larry; did you see that Vin Scully passed away, he might have been the last link to the Brooklyn Dodgers.

There’s still Sandy Koufax.

Larry; I didn't know Sandy was still with us, he sure pitched fire, even sometimes over the plate, at the very end he was a hero in Brooklyn, he and Cal Abrams.

Sandy is 86 yrs old. Actually, the oldest Brooklyn player still living is Carl Erskine at 95. Maybe Don Zimmer is still around too. Sandy didn’t hit his stride until Dodgers moved to LA. I don’t know much about Cal Abrams..before my time. Do you have a connection with Brooklyn?

Larry; I didn't know Sandy was still with us, he sure pitched fire, even sometimes over the plate, at the very end he was a hero in Brooklyn, he and Cal Abrams. Koufax had very good control, at least during the 4 seasons that got him into the HOF. And it really was just 4 seasons. He was very good in 1961 and 1962 (made the All-Star team each year), but no where near a Hofer, and he definitely struggled with control through the 1961 season. But after that, his control was very good. He was 5th in the NL in fewest BB/9 IP in 1963, and 6th in 1965. And it really is just 4 seasons, '63 through '66, that put him in the Hall. In those 4 years he pitched almost 1200 innings, struck out 1228 batters, went 97-27 with a 1.86 ERA, won 3 Cy Youngs and 1 MVP (and was 2nd in MVP voting two other seasons). The rest of his career (8 seasons, including the 1961 and 1962 seasons), he was 68-60 with a 3.71 ERA (in an era when the league ERA was typically below 4.00). He's not alone there, though. Dizzy Dean also had just 4 really super seasons and 2 very good ones. Both he and Koufax had to retire young due to injury. Hal Newhouser is basically in on the strength of 3 amazing seasons and 3 really good ones, with another 6+ seasons of mediocrity. I'm sure there are others. However, I'm also quite sure that none of these guys will be in the 2022-23 Titan lineup, so I may move all these posts down to their own thread in the General Board.

Commissioner, I get it, I wish there was more to talk Titans about, this gives us something to talk about until the Titan dance card gets filled,
Larry, the connection is Erasmus Hall, CCNY, Koufax was actually a very good basketball player, he cut his teeth at the Community Center leagues on Bay Parkway, he went on to Layfayette HS, and played some basketball at the Univ of Cincinnati. I think Cal Abrams did spend some time at Madison HS. Koufax was kind of a local hero in Brooklyn when it became apparent he wouldn't play on the Sabbath or the high holidays.
