Rocket Watts commits to Mississippi State, going from one MSU to another. I was hoping Watts was coming to Detroit. I am assuming we offered. I wonder what Howland promised him. They have all three of their starting Guards back and they are all underclassmen. Watts will have to fight for playing time and might get fewer minutes than he did at State and there isn't that much going on in Starksville except swatting bugs. His family will be further away and life will be a lot different for him in Mississippi compared to Michigan. Maybe he couldn't get past our Admissions Dept. this sure doesn't look like a bright move.

Going to Mississippi will be a culture shock for this young man. Mississippi did not ratify the 13th amendment (abolishing slavery and involuntary servitude and passed in 1865) until MARCH 16, 1995 (thats not a typo 1995 is correct) and was certified on FEBRUARY 7, 2013. (148 years later) Of all the places he could go to IMO this is the most racist of all. Someone please tell his family what he will encounter!!

That's plain just not fair, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are fine schools for all students. If this statement was true why would both schools have so many minority athletes? When they could go anywhere in the country.

Detroit native Ernie Zeigler is an assistant coach at Mississippi State, which probably helped in the recruitment of Watts

Delaware was a slave State that remained in the Union and did not ratify the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments until 1901. Thanks goodness that Rocket didn't choose Delaware State.

Class of 2021 MSU signee Max Christie was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Illinois. Projected as a day one impact player with the Spartans, but in the back of my mind I worry that he makes a last minute move to the G League or overseas. He seems all in on Michigan State and college ball, but you never know.
Pierre Books of Detroit Douglas, who also signed with MSU for 2021, was earlier named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Michigan.

Whitens choosing atmosphere over playing time and impact, which is a choice that used to be very rare but is getting more common.

Bryn Forbes becomes the latest MSU Spartan to get an NBA championship as the Bucks beat Phoenix in six. Forbes, who jumped to MSU after two seasons at Cleveland State, averaged ten points per game for the Bucks this season.

Cassius Winston and Josh Langford arrived on MSU's campus at the same time. Their careers took different paths. Langford, who was the higher ranked recruit, suffered injury after injury, and while he had some big moments on some very good teams, he never quite reached the potential some saw in him. Winston had one of the best careers any Spartan ever had, setting school and Big Ten records, and winning multiple individual honors while leading the Spartans to multiple Big Ten titles.
Today, both players received their master's degrees from Michigan State.
Student athletes.
