I can't think of too many D 1 teams that will retain a coach with a 0-31 season. Why pay this guy 5 or 6 hundred thousand dollars to go 1-31 when you can get some middle school coach at 5 cents on the dollar Because we are quite possibly obligated to pay Davis 5 or 6 hundred thousand dollars next year whether he coaches or not. And a replacement, in reality, on the cheap end would cost $250,000. I don’t think the trustees will be cool with paying two HC salaries next season. They shouldn’t be. I'd hope the trustees would be less cool with another 0-31 nightmare. As was said earlier on this thread, there are numerous ways to handle a structured buyout. Tax-wise Davis would be far better off spreading his final year's salary out over the first 4-5 years of his retirement, or at least until age 67 when he can take full advantage of his SSI benefits.

It will be interesting to see if any of the current scholarship players with reaming eligibility return for the 2024-25 season. Here are my thoughts on the order of past performance and/or future potential. 1. Stone 2. Tankersley 3. Tchikou 4. Hurst 5. Kuac 6. Manciel 7. Oaks . My guess is that Stone won't be back, but then again, I didn't expect him to be back this season, so you never know. I'll keep hoping. I don't know what Alex is thinking, but if he wants to keep playing basketball, he probably won't have a better situation that guarantees him playing time and fit with the program than the Titans. Getting Hurst and Oaks to return would be huge. I know I am the founder, president, and sole member of the Trenton Johnson Fan Club, but I'd like to see him come back next season. I know he arrived without much in the way of accolades, other than being praised as a hard worker, but he gave us some quality minutes before he got hurt. In that three game stretch against Ole Miss, Ohio, and EMU, he totaled 99 minutes in the backcourt and only committed 3 turnovers. He's not a scorer, but he hit 10-18 shots in that stretch, averaging about 7 points per game. He hit a clutch three pointer at Ole Miss with two minutes to go to give us a one point lead. I know those aren't world beater numbers, and it's a small sample size, but I'd welcome him back to provide depth at the guard spot. I think he might be one of those JUCO guys who makes a noticeable improvement in his second year of D1 ball. Speaking of JUCOs, we haven't seen much in the way of production from Tyree Davis. His minutes have been inconsistent, as has his level of play, but he's got good size for the three spot and athleticism. Regardless of who the head coach will be, the Titans need to land some transfers capable of outplaying expectations, like Stone, Kul, Akec, Matt Johnson, Liddell, etc. And when they do commit, the program needs to everything they can, as quickly as they can, to get them admitted and eligible. The one thing we can reasonably offer recruits is playing time and an opportunity to maximize their talent. And those guys have to be molded into a group that is willing to excel in an atmosphere that hopefully has team success as the number one goal. We'll see what happens.

I think all 3 Houston guys are gone, with your potential holdover maybe being Oaks depending on the situation outlook, but he had some higher offers if he would have stayed in prep school so I think he leaves. I still am of the opinion that roster retention trumps all in our situation because we’re probably at an all time low in terms of positive program recognition. Even the Antoine stuff had negative connotations in the national media.

I think talking Tankersley into coming back would be a huge win for thre incoming coach. Tankersley will have some solid lower level P5 offers I could see him transferring to a school like TCU. I believe he will be highly sought after.
