The Titans were skunked today in the HL's all-conference selections. I started to write, "Not surprisingly ...," but it is suprising that Jayden Stone didn't make even 3rd team All-Conference.
Stone led the league in scoring, and this is the first time the league's leading scorer hasn't gained all-conference recognition since 1980, the first year of the MCC. And for most of that time, the league only had first and second team All-conference selections.
Just on the stats, Stone was also in the top 10 in the league in steals, three pointers per game, minutes per game, and free throw percentage; and in the top 20 in the league in rebounding, assists, field goal percentage. Just on the eye test, I think Stone is clearly superior to at least a couple guys recognized, e.g. Blake Lampman (2d team), Brett Thompson of YSU (3rd team) Jalen Jackson of PFW (3rd team).
Would've been nice to see Stone get that recognition of coming back, making the honor roll, and playing so hard on such a bad team.
Here are the selections:
POY: Trey Townsend, OU
DPOY: Trey Robinson, NKU
FOY: David Douglas, GB
6th Man: Jack Gohlke, OU
COY: Sundance Wicks, GB
1st team:
Townsend, OU
Trey Calvin, WSU
Tristan Enaruna, CSU
Marques Warrick, NKU
Noah Reynolds, GB
2d Team
BJ Freeman, UWM
Lampman, OU
Brandon Noel, WSU
DJ Burns, YSU
Ziggy Reid, YSU
3rd Team:
Rasheed Bellow, PFW
Jackson, PFW
Markese Hastings, RMU
Tanner Holden, WSU
Thompson, YSU
All-Fresh
Douglas, GB
Cory Hadnot, PFW
Gabe Dynes, YSU
Marcus Hall, GB
Randall Pettis, NKU
All-D:
Robinson, NKU
Bello, PFW
Anthony Roberts, PFW
Burns, YSU
Dynes, YSU
Note GB's great turnaround featured the transfer Reynolds, but also two members of the all-freshman team.
