Mark came here because his high school coach played for Davis at IU. Did anyone here really expect, even if there were no NIL out there, that he would stay once Davis left. You asked for change and got it. This is one of the possible costs. There are far worse things than losing players from 1-31 teams. Even the better ones, like Tank. What would be a lot worse would be losing guys who could potentially be contributors on a better team, and not replacing them with equal or better players. I'm not sold on the idea that just hiring a new coach will solve our recruiting and player admission/eligibility issues. There are a few guys I would like to see back next season.

There are far worse things than losing players from 1-31 teams. Even the better ones, like Tank. Ask Kate Achter how she would have fared this year if Irene Murua, Emma Trawally Porta, and Imani McNeal had left after their 1-win season two years ago. I would suggest that you shouldn't be so flippant on the player retention issue. Especially since a strong case can be made that the 1-win record resulted mostly from the absence of certain types of players on the roster than from the players themselves. This year's team was missing a couple of important pieces. But they played hard. They never gave in like some of you did when you called for boycotts. You want players with that character to remain. Add some new blood and different skills to the group and you get improvement. Bring in 13 new players, then it's a crap shoot. So, yes, I hope that Mark decides to stay once he meets the new coach and gains some level of comfort and trust with that person. I hope he stays too. I hope our best players all stay. They would help in the transition to the new staff. But if they don't, it's not the end of the world. You can't make people stay. if they don't want to be here and help with the rebuild, then good luck at their new location, and we'll move forward without them, with players who want to be here.

I think possibly there was even less chance of Tankersley staying if Davis would have been retained for one more year. Davis would have a "dead man walking" with almost no prospect of getting a future contract renewal. Recruiting would have been extremely difficult but many holes to plug. The team was 1-31 this year, likely projected to be close to that next year. With a forthcoming new coach, a least there is a clean slate and greater hope for improvement, maybe the replacement will be better equipped to make a compelling case to Tank to hang with Detroit.

Are you saying coach Davis didnt meet with the team to say goodbye? It seemed as if they didn’t give him the opportunity to, it was only the assistants and vowels. That's not right. I could understand if coach did something inappropriate to the players/staff. A place with high standards and professionalism should not act or treat people this way. If someone wants to act unprofessional and storm out that's on them. To not let a man say his piece on something he built letting everyone reflect on it is disgusting in my book.
