It's not only about money in the budget. It's about the people you hire.
Brandon Longmeier was/is the perfect person to represent our school again. His current title is Ass't Athletics Director, Viking Fund. I say bring him back with a pay raise and a larger title, even if it means brooming out some existing staff. When you know who you're getting, it's no gamble at all.

Dok Muorador, a 6-11 transfer center, committed to Cleveland State. Dok just completed his freshman year at South Florida. Saw action in 19 games, averaging a point and a rebound per game. Hit a season high of 7 points in a 12 minute stint against Cincinnati. Raw, but he's young, and you can't teach height. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5107158/dok-muordar

It's late June, and CSU sends out this email to the Viking fan base that pitches season tickets and provides updates on roster and schedule:
"Cleveland State Athletics has announced the availability of season ticket packages for 2023-24 Viking Men's Basketball. Lower Level seats start at just $99." While a full game schedule is expected to be released later this summer, already confirmed games at the Wolstein Center will include 11 Horizon League contests and non-conference contests with Western Michigan, Ohio, and Canisius. The Vikings are positioned for continued success headed into the second season under Head Coach Daniyal Robinson, after achieving a record for most wins under a first-year coach in CSU history. First-team all-league performer Tristan Enaruna returns along with seven additional members from last year's squad that won 21 games and secured a berth in the College Basketball Invitational. Returning starters Tae Williams and Drew Lowder each averaged over nine points per game last season. Five newcomers join the roster, including local product Danny Young (Shaker Heights), Tevin Smith, Dok Muordar, Jalin Rice and KJ Debrick. The Vikings will look to reach the postseason for a school-record fourth consecutive season.

And who's that U-D alum again who's on their Athletic Dept. Staff who everyone here still loves from his days working at his Alma Mater? Bring that guy back ASAP. We'll not only get this kind of output but we'll get it with a smile and a laugh and a pat on the back!

A basketball program committing an act of proactive fan engagement by notifying the faithful of the latest developments? Using communication as a way to increase interest? What concepts! If they followed the UDM lead, they'd be playing on Kevin Mackey Court and constantly talking about their great run back in the 1980s.

A Cleveland St. Ignatius guy. It breaks my heart every time I see another Ignatius grad ignore this Jesuit University. My graduating class sent about 40 students to U of D. Last few years I checked it was 0. St Ignatius has a great athletic tradition including National Championships in Football and Soccer. Not as potent in Basketball, but always good. We can't get a mid-major prospect to give a look (I do not know if he was recruited.) It is worse in Soccer we could use almost any starter off a National Championship team and get crickets.

Reece Robinson is the son of Cleveland State's head coach, Danyial Robinson.

That's very nice. CSU certainly is embracing that athletics can raise the overall success and profile of your university. It seems they have a plan in place and have put the right people in charge of making it happen. I'm impressed. If Robinson does well there as head coach and moves on, they will be in a good position to attract solid candidates, because they have shown they will support the basketball program.

I think CSU's advantage is they are a public university, with the availability of public money. Granted CSU doesn't have the money that Ohio State has, but they have a distinct advantage over the UDM.
I remember years ago Brad Kinsman would be at every home game with a big ring of keys to lock up after the game, and he always collected the unopened Cokes after the game from the press table, the place ran like a Sisters of the Poor HS gym. In all these years it never got better, maybe worst, the program certainly isn't run like a mid-major D1 program based in a major trading area.
