Scouting report from MHSAA Boys Basketball Finals:
Top players from the Breslin Center. No clue who is recruiting who.
Jake Stephens - Chelsea (Class B). 6'4" SG. Showed good handles for a 6'4" HS kid. Not sure those would translate to D1 college basketball. Ultra confident player who was playing too quick against Grand Rapids Christian when they bowed out in the semi final.
Jaylan Ouwinga - Grand Rapids Christian (Class B). 6'8" PF. You cant teach size. This kid moved well without the basketball, plays well above the rim and altered plenty of shots on defense. Would be a quality player for us... if hes not recruited well above us.
Marcus Blackwell - Warren Lincoln (Class B Champs). 6'2" SG. Warren felt most confident with the ball in his hands despite him not being a PG. Best player on this state champion. He showed up big in the title game when I thought they may fall short. Quality prospect for D1 and a local kid as this high school is near 9 Mile and Van Dyke.
Javontae Ross - Flint Powers Catholic (Class B). 5'11" PG. Junior. Smooth with the ball in his hands and despite his size was able to create space and get off shots when needed. Borderline D1 look but only a junior.
Tyler Spratt - North Farmington (Class A). 6'5" SG. I believe hes going to Cleveland State. Not a stud by any means but a quality player.
Timarion Minor - Warren Lincoln (Class B Champs). 6'5", 250lb F. Something about this kid (maybe the fact that he looked 30) told me he could overachieve in the right circumstance. His size allowed him to play bully-ball at the HS level but he had some serious skills as well. Reminded me of Jaleel Hogan in some ways. Potential is there.
Trey McKenney - OLSM (Class A Champs). 6'5" SG. Best player in the Breslin. Confident he's being recruited well over our heads. Only a Jr but was confident, collected with the ball, etc. Will ne fun to see how he does at the next level.
Jaremiah Palmer - Niles Brandywine (Class C Champs). 6'1" Forward. Says "forward", but played like a guard. Fantastic run in the finals and plays with serious attitude. Steal/Dunk combo to begin the 2nd half led the way to their defeat of Detroit Old Redford in the title game. No clue if hes being recruited for basketball or anything else but he looked promising to me.
Not sure if Ann Arbor Huron has anyone of note in Class A. They played so awful that it was tough to tell an A player from an end of the bench guy.
