Scores for March 24, 2024. The Sweet Sixteen is set.
NCAA TOURNAMENT Purdue106, Utah State 67. Massacre.
UConn 75, Northwestern 58. It wasn't this close.
Houston 100, Texas A&M 95 (OT). The Aggies came back from the dead and closed regulation on a 13-3 run to force overtime. Houston became the first team to win an NCAA tournament game with four players fouling out since 1987.
Marquette 81, Colorado 77. The Golden Eagles get back to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.
Clemson 72, Baylor 64. The ACC is outperforming expectations in the Big Dance.
Duke 93, James Madison 55
Alabama 72, Grand Canyon 61. I watched this game at a "watch party" at GCU arena with thousands of Antelope fans. It was like being there. Not a well played game, but it was close and exciting.
San Diego State 85, Yale 57. The Aztecs jumped out early and cruised.
NIT Indiana State 76, Minnesota 64. 30 wins for the Sycamores.
Georgia 72, Wake Forest 66. Wake's comeback fell short.
VCU 70, South Florida 65
Utah 91, Iowa 82
UNLV 79, Boston College 70
CBI Cleveland State 51, Northern Colorado 49. Rock fight. Good win for the HL.
Montana 82, Presbyterian 79
Fairfield 82, Little Rock 75
Evansville 64, Quinnipiac 63. The Aces won a jumpshot with one second left.

Not a single mid-major cinderella in the Sweet 16. 5th seed San Diego State would be closest, and of course there is #5 seed (but hardly a Cinderella) Gonzaga. Only double-digit seed left in #11 NC State.

Scores for March 25, 2024.
CIT Purdue Fort Wayne 73, Tarleton State 72. Early in the season Fort Wayne looked like it could be the best of the HL teams, and now they are the last HL team still playing. The Mastadons took the lead on a layup with 17 seconds left. Tarleton State got two more shots at the basket, but couldn't convert. Fort Wayne will face Norfolk State on Wednesday for the CIT championship.
CBI High Point 93, Cleveland State 74. HPU has been a well running offensive machine all year, and this game was no exception. The Vikings season comes to an end in the CBI quarters.
Arkansas State 74, Montana 61
Fairfield 77, Chicago State 74. Chicago State finishes the season at 13-19, putting up a good fight against a solid Fairfield team. Fairfield continues on at 24-12 while CSU looks ahead to conference play in the NEC next season.
Seattle U 71, Evansville 57. The Purple Aces were up six at the break, but Seattle clamped down on defense and ramped up the offense in the second half.

Scores for March 26, 2024. Good night for basketball fans. There were four games and three of them were barn burners.
NIT Georgia 79, Ohio State 77. Georgia led by 13 in the second half before a Buckeye rally gave OSU a three point lead with four minutes to go. Unfortunately for Columbus, the Bulldogs fought back and won a thriller.
Indiana State 85, Cincinnati 81. On the anniversary of Michigan State defeating Indiana State for the 1979 NCAA championship, the Sycamores showed more poise down the stretch to get the win at home.
Larry Bird's school and Dominique Wilkens's move on as two of the teams to compete in the NIT Final Four at Madison Square...I mean Hinkle Fieldhouse.
CBI High Point 81, Arkansas State 80. HPU had a three point lead and the ball with about a minute to go, but a key turnover and a couple of missed free throws gave Arkansas State a chance.
Seattle University 75, Fairfield 58. A couple of Catholic schools on opposite sides of the country mixed it up. The first half was close, but Seattle took control in the second half.
Seattle and High Point meet for the CBI championship tomorrow on ESPN2.

Scores for March 27, 2024. As the season hits the home stretch, ESPN2 put on a nice tripleheader.
CIT CHAMPIONSHIP Norfolk State 75, Purdue Fort Wayne 67. The Mastodons had a ten point lead at the half, but Norfolk State came out fast in the second half and took control. Jalen Johnson, PFW's leading scorer, went 1-10 from the floor and scored 5 points, 11 below his average. The Mastodons finish the season with a solid 23-13 record, while Norfolk State finishes 15-0 at home and takes the CIT title.
CBI CHAMPIONSHIP Seattle 77, High Point 67. Seattle jumped out to a 27-10, but High Point fought back to take a lead late. It was HPU 67-66 with 1:56 left, but Seattle went on an 11-0 run to end the game and claim the championship. The Redhawks improve to 23-14 with the win, while the Panthers go 27-9 in year one of the Head Coach Huss era. Good news for HPU: Their 7 foot freshman center Juslin Bodo Bodo closed the season by totaling 32 points, 32 rebounds, and 9 blocks over the final two games of the season. Bad news for HPU: The bigger schools are going to go after Bodo hard.
NIT Seton Hall 91, UNLV 68. Nice matchup on paper, but it turned into a blowout. UNLV came in winners of 12 of their previous 15, but Seton Hall jumped on them early and never looked back. I love how the Pirates have approached the NIT. Rather than complainng about not making the NCAA tournament and staying home, their team embraced the opportunity to play more games. They've thrilled the fans at their small on-campus arena while laying a foundation for better days ahead. That's how you do it.
Utah 74, VCU 54. Another matchup that looked good on paper but turned into a rout. In the second half, the Utes lead grew to 29 points.
The NIT Final Four is set: Georgia, Utah, Seton Hall, and Indiana State.

Scores for March 28, 2024. Droughts end.
Alabama 89, North Carolina 87. It was a game of runs, and Alabama had the last one. Bitter loss for the Heels, as uncharacteristic poor shooting did them in. The Tide made their first appearance in the Elite Eight since 2004.
Clemson 77, Arizona 72. Clemson goes to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1980. Arizona has piled up lots of wins under Tommy Lloyd, but they haven't been able to get past the Sweet Sixteen.
UConn 82, San Diego State 52. UConn truly appears to be the class of the nation, especially with UNC and Arizona out of it.
Illinois 72, Iowa State 69. Illinois to the Elite Eight for the first time in 19 years.

Scores for March 29, 2024. And then there were eight.
North Carolina State 67, Marquette 58. The Wolfpack's magic ride continues. Didn't see this one, so I'm not sure what happened with Marquette, but they didn't shoot well from anywhere.
Purdue 80, Gonzaga 68. Edey did his thing with 27 and 14.
Duke 54, Houston 51. Houston was up early, right up until staring point guard Jamal Shead injured his ankle. He was done for the night, and Duke eeked out a win. Houston has battled injuries all year, but that was one too many.
Tennessee 82, Creighton 75. Tennesee took control with an 18-0 run, but the Blue Jays responded with a 20-7 run of their own. The Volunteers righted the ship, and took control down the stretch. It's the first Tennessee Elite Eight appearance since 2010, and only the second in their history.
The next two days should be epic.

Scores for March 30, 2024. Two tickets punched for Phoenix.
UConn 77, Illinois 52. UConn looks like Godzilla and the rest of the field looks like Toyko. This game was tied at 23 until the Huskies went on a 28-0 run.
Alabama 89, Clemson 82. The Tigers had a 13 point lead early, but couldn't hold it. The Tide shot 62 times from the floor, and 36 of them were three pointers. They hit 44% from the long line. Here's the thing about 'Bama: If they are hitting their threes, they are extremely tough to beat. I'm not sure if they will have a game like this again, however.

Scores for March 31, 2024. And then there were four.
ELITE EIGHT Purdue 72, Tennessee 76. The Boilermakers were led by 40 points and 16 rebounds from zach Edey. The Vols went up 11 with 5:12 left in the first half, but Purdue actually fought back to lead by four at the break. Dalton Knecht had 37 for Tennessee. Vols fans will complain about the free throw disparity. Tennesee shot 11 free throws while Purdue shot 33.
NC State 76, Duke 64. Evil is defeated again.

The Wolfpack are having a run for the ages. Just look at the list of victims in this streak. They beat a bunch of high profile programs, even the bad Louisville team. And the Grizzlies, while not a brand name, were the closest we got to a Cinderella this year. Louisville, Syracuse, Duke, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas Tech, Oakland, Marquette, and Duke again. That's quite a collection of scalps.

The season is winding down, and if you're a true college basketball fan, it will be a long time before the 2024-25 season tips off. So, don't waste the chance to watch some good basketball tonight when ESPN televises the NIT Final Four. Both matchups are intriguing.
7:00 PM Eastern ESPN Utah vs Indiana State. The Sycamores, enjoying their best year since Larry Bird, are 31-6. They fell in the MVC tournament, but there were some who tried to make a case for ISU playing in the NCAA tournament. They weren't invited, but they didn't pout. They just got back to winning. So far in the NIT they have beaten SMU, Minnesota, and Cincinnati.
Utah was picked to finish in the middle of the PAC 12, and that's what they did, finishing league play at 9-11. On the other hand, in this, the final year of the PAC 12, they are the last men's basketball team still playing. After beating UC Irvine, Iowa, and VCU to make the NIT semis, the Utes face their toughest postseason challenge tonight.
9:30 PM Eastern ESPN 2 Georgia vs Seton Hall. Seton Hall was another team disappointed by not being invited to the Big Dance, but they channeled that disappointment into something positive. They knocked off St. Joseph's, North Texas, and UNLV to reach this point, and they're 4.5 point favorites tonight.
Georgia remains first and foremost a football school, but the Bulldogs have shown some signs of life in the two years since Tom Crean's reign ended. This is the program's first NIT appearance since 2017. Entering the tournament at 17-16, they've beaten Xavier, Wake Forest and Ohio State.
The NIT still has some sizzle for me, even though I wish they still played the semis and finals in the Garden, instead of at Hinkle Fieldhouse. I'm going to kick back and enjoy the games tonight.
