Go all in on men's hoops. Period. Trickle down.
Florida Gulf Coast’s admissions applications increased 27.5% after their Sweet 16 run.
Butler’s applications nearly tripled after two Final Fours.
George Mason’s inquiries went up 350% after beating Villanova in 2011.
Successful athletics fills beds and builds new buildings, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Shawn,
I'm sure they know all this already BUT they should hear it from you, and from everyone who supports Titan Athletics -- because it does matter. Taylor understands the value of Athletics - but he needs to know that there are supporters like you and me.
So I suggest that you send a letter directly to Dr. Taylor yourself. If you need his email, send me a text at 586-871-0563 and identify your full name and a little background info and I'll share it with you.

If winning a game gets you those types of results than we probably got way better results when we rebranded ourselves right?

udshawn - despite his repeated references in his numerous public speeches about the Butler effect on that school's applications, I don't think that Taylor, who is a basketball fan at heart, has any clue about those stats. Also, to compete with FGCU, we will be plugging some drains on campus to create a lake and a beach on the site of the old Fisher Admin building. Since rainwater naturally collected there for decades, a committee decided that the new Livernois-Mercy Beach and Ice Skating Pavilion would be the highest and best use of that land.

Using paragraphs as suggested!
Query: 68 men’s teams made the tourney and another 64 women’s teams (or do they do 68 too?) made the NCAA. Thus college enrollment is up for each along with donations? Just want to confirm how those silver bullets work. Does every team get a boost with an upset or two-round run? I wish there was a stats guru who could drill down on this. Do the trendz hold? Are they one off things? Seems like a tough thing to use regular NCAA runs as a long range plan, especially with transfers and NIL guaranteed to gut any mid-major or lower level school that has even middling success. Wish it were different for sure, but it is not is it?
I’d love it to be true for us of course but it seems a little like magical thinking. If we made the tournament how deep must our run be to find a pot of gold? Sweet Sixteen, Elite 8, Final 4? Curious about how Butler is doing with the team not doing as well as it did before leaving the HL. If I wasn't so lazy I might look at Loyola too.
Also those stats cited above go back a decade or more (2006, 2010, 2013 etc.) Those were prime bubble years for enrollment. There are simply not as many college kids coming of age after 2011. How is enrollment today and donations? Does it “stick?”Will this year’s crop of Cinderellas get the same kick?
Slyly…our endowment is up from like 20MM to over 100M w/o a winning team…maybe we should just keep on doing what we are doing; and there was a recent successful capital campaign and enrollment is rising too. (Ok, OK. Just joshing you guys. Be calm. Foolin’ w/ u in April is all.)
Also query: What if any boost did we get when we bested UCLA so longggg ago? Or in Ray’s tenure? Winning teams and Tourney bids. Did it boost us? I want success but I don’t want us chasing chimera. Conversely…has enrollment declined because of our athletic woes? I just keep thinking about all the puffery about Super Bowls, new stadia, and economic impacts that are not always quite as advertised plus Twain’s glib remark about, as I recall, “lies, damned lies and statistics.” Wonder who commissioned the above surveys? Conspiratorially…the NCAA, ESPN? (LOL). Just me I’m sure.

George Mason’s inquiries went up 350% after beating Villanova in 2011. Successful athletics fills beds and builds new buildings, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Great post. I hope that everyone in the administration is aware of this. While a tournament appearance provides a good boost, there's a lot that goes on outside of the lines on the court to make that possible. St. Peter's made their magic run after millions of dollars in investment and that helped to begin and sustain the momentum. SPU lost their head coach after the run to the Elite Eight and slipped to 14-18 last year, but this season they had a solid 19 win season that included winning the conference tournament and the auto bid to the Big Dance. Good for them. They're not a bad comparison point for us. It's a small Jesuit University in a tough city. Their enrollment and endowment are smaller than ours. A big difference between the programs happened in 2020, when a former Peacock basketball player dropped a $5 million donation on the school, which was used to renovate their arena and support improvements in the basketball program. They're an aggressive fundraising organization in general, having raised $70 million from roughly 2016 to 2022, according to the University. In December of 2022, they announced a new fundraising effort, Peacocks Rise, with a goal of at least $75 million. U-D/Detroit/Detroit Mercy/UDMercy/UDM/Mercy isn't a fundraising powerhouse, so that handcuffs us. However, there are things that can be done to improve the program that don't cost big money, relatively speaking. Many of those thing have been mentioned on this board before by various members. If/when the Titans get back to the Big Dance, the University has to capitalize on it. I remember very little marketing for the team during the McCallum years, even though we had some positive things happening. Spending a few bucks to send the team to the CIT or CBI wouldn't have been a bad thing during that time. (St. Peter's won the CIT in 2017.) If we get back to the tourney, we can't squander the opportunity. The new coach will need the full support of the University. Let's hope he gets it. GO TITANS!
